A coup or not?

Hilary Riva, chief executive of the British Fashion Council is really pulling out all the stops to try and make London NOT be the fashion week that the people that matter in the fashoin world skip.  Luella Bartley making a London comeback.  Matthew Williamson doing a one-off-season show in London.  Rumours of Alexander McQueen showing his McQ line in London as well.   Now, the BFC’s latest coup is getting Stella McCartney to close London Fashion Week by presenting her SS08 collaboration with Adidas.

Supposedly it’s the ‘designer sportswear’ bang to end an ‘exciting week’ but as I keep on saying like a truly batty broken record, the ‘exciting’ element of LFW is not for me the ‘glitz’ of these big names.  It’s the really rich off-schedule.  Names like Danielle Scutt and Louise Goldin getting slots on the on-schedule.  The inevitable hot anticipation of new collections from Marios Schwab, Christopher Kane who aren’t new-gen anymore but much like sophomore and third albums from bands that come out with a bang, collections from these names are also super exciting when unveiled.  London Fashion Week may be a packed schedule come September but the ones to really get into a fuss about certainly aren’t these ‘cajoled’ big names (who knows what the BFC have done to gain these coups….).

Having said that, I have no objections against Stella McCartney’s Adidas range which for me doubles up as everyday wear seeing as I’m pretty non-active sports wise.  The tennis dress is particularly nice.

  1. The dress is nice, but not sure if it works particularly well on court. Maria Kirilenko wore it to Wimbledon this past week; it seemed like it was awkwardly bunching around her upper thighs

  2. I have the tennis dress and wear it as a dress for work. I’ve gotten many compliments on it. It’s really cute.

  4. I’m also not a huge sportswear fan, much less sportswear as fashion (I wear scrubs to work out, thankyouverymuch.) But Stella’s collab w/ Adidas has definitely been cute.

  5. I have one of the first tops that came out and I absolutely love it. I get so many compliments because it is just a strangely beautifully built exercise shirt thing.
