What is all that black and shiny stuff?

What is all that sheeny, shiny black mass you see here?  Some high fashion show for the autumn winter 2007-8 that went under your radar? No, it’s just plain old Oasis.  Topshop started it all with giving high street stores the license to hold catwalk shows to give their clothes more oomph and pizazz.  Of course, given a batch a good models, clever styling and some thumping tunes, most high street clothes would look a notch up and Oasis is no different.  Actually, if i’m honest, I’ve been impressed with some of the pieces Oasis been coming out with since they’ve taken the big jewelled thing and metallic tones and have literally run away with it.

For next season though, gone is the silver sheen and it has been replaced with dresses, jackets and coats oozing with liquid plastic black.  If you refused to register bin-liners as an autumn winter inspiration then here is your proof.  Though obviously, shiny black plastic is effected with softer fabrics which should take away the discomfort factor.  It all looks rather good all gussied up on the catwalk and of course the real test is when it hits the shops sometime in August-September.  Still, for a trend that could be ever so fleeting, it wouldn’t hurt to buy into it on the cheap (ish!) at Oasis.

  1. I I wouldn’t live at place where the population is under 10 000 person ( and most of them pensioners) I would totally want to try something like that as a part of my wardrope. but cause i don’t want to cause any heart attacs …

  2. Alright – I’ve come back to this 3 times today b/c I couldn’t quite feel right affirming the shiny blacy material…but I think the only reason I hesitated was that Herchovitch’s garbags sack dress still give me shudders. But these piece, though voluminous, have enough structure or weight in the material that I can see yes it’s fabric and not bin liner. So I am allowing myself to covet without guilt and try to see if I can sneak a jacket similar to these somewhere

  3. oooo lovely! where did you get the images from? can i see the whole collection?
