The girl with the boy toys

I have a bit of an odd fetish with gadgets, mechanics and general electronic bric-a-brac.  My dear daddy had instilled in me from an early age that of course the best hunting ground in London for such paraphanalia was Brick Lane.  I’m also quite taken with incorporating my gadgetry into my outfits.  Hey, if they’re calling the iPod a fashion accessory, hanging it around my neck intertwined with pom pom trim and white plastic chains isn’t so far fetched.

So I was delighted to a) find this girl holding an old 1970’s underwater video camera that she had found on Brick Lane and b) that the cream plastic of the camera matched her draped cream cotton dress.  That she was also standing with a bike, holding a wine glass and that her dress was belted with a DIY leather charm belt were all bonus really.

  1. cool concept, and i can appreciate all the aspects of it, but i think she looks a mess!!

  2. oooh, I love gadgets too. I hate that we can’t get any pretty gadgets in North America (I live in Toronto). Needless to say, I went nuts when I went to Japan. I bought phone dangles and stuff like that.
But I really lost it in Hong Kong. I tell everyone “I bought a new cell phone at the cell phone mall. I said THE CELL PHONE MALL!!” There are so many more styles and colours there.
And I bought a case for my ancient Palm (hey, it works for me).
ps – thanks for the shopping tips! I found some cool stores in Soho and saw just an awesome purse…a little too much for me to buy but I liked the looking!

  3. oooo…. the things you can do with an underwater video camera. that’s sweet. as far as accessory goes… it’s about time industrial designers got clued in to the fact that if they design prettier stuff, we’ll be more inclined to incorporate it on our lives. : )

  4. What a hilarious picture, she has so much going on. I could totally see myself being this girl, I walk around with a messenger, camera, journal, notepad, sweater, and on top of that today I had a huge satchel full of magazines!
