Open Sesame!

So my search for Preen magazine in the UK has been a bit fruitless.  Well, it’s not yet stocked outside North America and to procure the issues, I’ll have to do it the old fashioned mail-order method.  In the meantime, whilst I’m waiting for something to grasp in my hands and flick through furiously, an online magazine that is in the same vein and also very much like my beloved Lula is Sesame.  Originating for Australia and now in it’s 5th issue, it again features the same pretty dreamy yet low-fi photography and styling mixing vintage and established and up and coming Australian designers. Even more useful for me since there’s a whole slew of Aussie designers that I really need to talk up (even though Style Bubble is pretty UK-centric, I am aware of the existence of other continents…promise!).

From Issue 5:

‘A Little Bird Told Me’, photographed by Thuy Vy, styled by Nadia Barbaro – the skirt by Arabella Ramsey has taken my fancy.

‘White Wedding’ – photographed by Germaine McMicking, styled by Nadia Barbaro – not usually a fan of Collette Dinnigan but the dress on the ‘bride’ works.

‘Rollertrain’ – photographed by Germain McMicking, styled by Nadia Barbaro – My only gripe is that they listset the black jacket on the left as ‘Stylist’s Own’ – gah!

People and their ‘Favourite Things’ – I can understand why given the multi-strapped beaten-up leather boots and the Paris Pink satin night gown…

Sesame also pays homage to anything from circus star Tosca to the humble tracksuit (I now have a hankering to find my old Care Bear sweatshirt…)

No P&P, no constant trips to Borders, just click.  It’s dreary, miserable and grey here and an hour of Sesame archive issue browsing should hopefully make the day go by quicker…
