Remember how my pink Miu Miu shoes got the most obvious of stares when walking around, it seems this Topshop Unique pink pinafore which I picked up a while back has the same effect though I can’t decipher whether they are stares of admiration or derision. Even when I was buying the dress, I could already hear people sniggering about it with someone commenting ‘Why would I want to weara bubblegum coloured tent?’ Indeed, why WOULD I want to wear a bubblegum tent. On the catwalk, the tent like proportions of the dress aren’t apparent which baffles me as it is a) a supposed ONE-SIZE garment, b) I’m in no way slighter than the model. But the back billows in the wind and the oversized pockets puff out proudly and yes, I love all of that.
So there I am walking around as the ‘bubble gum tent’ and the stares, gawps and baffled looks on people’s faces say either two things:
‘Oh my goodness, is she going to clown school?’
‘Oh my goodness, that is cuteness.’
In my deluded state, I could very well think it’s the latter. However in my pragmatic head, it probably is the first statement. I thought I was buying a fun summery dress that is subtle in design but it seems it’s a little more complex than that. However, my conclusion is still the same initial gut instinct: ‘All hail the bubble gum tent’.

susie, i hate to break it to you, but you pull it off. not many people can do that with a bubble gum tent dress. perhaps they are coveting your style? i have a garbage bag dress that i wear on occasion. i get stares, but i love the dress so i wear it anyway.
you look adorable. : )
i love yer bubblegum tent of joy!!!! it reminds me a bit of the trapeze dress i have on today from phillip lim’s uniqlo line, which my co-workers all love but passerby seem to hate. xo
love the dress especially in the first pic. I want that necklace…where did you get it?
i love that dress
is this bag from chanel? from the last fall season? i`ve seen an “inspired” version at some onlineshop the other day. how much did you pay for it, if you don`t mind that i ask.
Ignore them. You look great. I love girls who dress for themselves first and then for other girls instead of dressing for guys.
Honestly, guys only like one style: tarty.
No worries, you look absotively fantastic!
I love it, and I love how you´ve paired it with gray clothes. Man, I wish we had Topshop here!
i love it. looks adorable.
Hey Susie, you look so great, i love the necklace, its awesome how you put this outfit together, love your hadbag… Who cares what people says… You totally Rock!
It’s nothing but cuteness to me. Actually, if I would see it in a store, I’d probably buy it. Great colour, cute shape and above all pockets! I love pockets on dresses!
Love both your ensembles as well. You really managed to add your on twist to a piece that’s already eyecatching on it’s own.
Love it! It’s not something that everyone can pull off but you can for sure. I really like it with the striped shirt and white necklace. And of course your awesome white shoes!

Ooops! Sorry for the double post!
dig your shoes in the first pic.
on an unrelated and selfish note, if you happen to know how office shoes run regarding size, i’d greatly appreciate any guidance. want to order online and will get screwed if i fuck up the size. if not, all’s good and thanks anyway.
if it were me i’d get a bit muddled up about the front and the back but my gosh it looks adorable on you. i guess ‘cool-clocking’ has it’s spiteful disadvantages…no worries – u make both outfits look fab x
What a great look, I love the socks and shoes. I would totally photograph you if I saw you on the street!
I think u pulled it off as well i love the second picture with the tights socks n shoes!! Def hott!! N i love the purse too!
Wasn’t that photo on the right from the Facehunter? He knows a good thing when he spots it, and that dress is a good thing. Love it!
i love it. i love the design and the colour. and you wear it well.
Hi. Are you interesting in a link exchange with my blog ?

Now how would that tent look on a “healthy” girl?
I have to agree, that dress is absolutely wonderful. I would think that where you live people are more acceptable of such a great dress!
I do have to say though that those vintage multi strap shoes you have are just about my most favorite thing I have seen you wear. They are beautiful.
haha… I had to get that dress for myself in the topshop sale after seeing you on Facehunter with it 🙂 I agree, it’s definitely not a dress for the fainthearted – its big swingy shape and punch-in-the-eye colour requires oodles of swaggering ‘pah! In yer face!!’ness. But it is weirdly huge…
you are def rocking the dress, I wanted it so so much when it first came out but the front pinafore bit just sat between my ’em boobage’ but I just loved the hippage it gave me (lack of hips and bum) and I spent ages lamenting over my stupid figure and that was all before you posted the first post about it!! you are bringing back my sorrow as we speak lol
well i think u pulled it off so don’t listen to other ppl
You definitely pull off the style, I’m thinking awww, cuteness…
Love Love Love that dress! You pull it off very well. It makes me want to get one too! However I do know about those stares. When i get them I usually wear my darkest sunglasses so i can look at the stares and so people don’t see my mean looking eyes. It’s all in the attitude darling and you most def have it!
Work it!
:*
Aw, the haters are just jealous. Of course there are people who don’t ‘get’ volume / trends etc but it looks wicked with the stripey top. Rock on bubblegum Style Bubble.
Mrs F x
Totally love the dress, ignore the silly comments… I get some comments about my PVC dress which some think is made out of a black bin bag.
i lovee it too
You look wonderful! I really like the first picture. You’ve paired the dress with exactly the right stuff and you really pull it off. x
Lovely pinky!!
I think it looks really cool, I recon everyone else is jealous!
Awesome dress! You wear it better than on the runway photo.
susie you look so. amazing. in that dress- it’s got to be stares of envy people are giving you!
I’d probably stare at you if I saw you walking down the street in that dress. I’d be thinking- “OMG WHAT AN AWESOME DRESS SHE LOOKS SO COOL I WANT IT!”
You’ve definitely inspired me to want to buy that dress from Opening Ceremony. I keep going back and oogling it. Maybe next week when paychecks start to roll in.
Looks great Susie – particularly with the stripe long sleeve top which i think balances the proportions better than with a tank. I love how the front of the dress pleats and folds – almost like origami.
i bought a Nom D (a NZ brand) parachute-eque pinafore a while ago which i have hardly worn, but now i feel inspired.. thanks! 🙂
The dress is a winner, Susie.. I loved the way you’d worn it on Facehunter but it goes equally well with the tank for summer. And I love how your t-shirt and socks are grey, which lets the pinkness pop even more.
You remind me of the pink bubblegum guy in Mighty Boosh… in a good way! I like it. xx
How do you manage to look so good with the most unlikely pieces? I like the way you match the socks with the shoes, and the dress with the grey top.. u really did well!
Looks like Topshop might have been ‘inspired’ by this Jean-Pierre Braganza dress from Spring/Sum 07 that I just bought: (look 2)

Just total cuteness there- daring (for me, anyway) and fun!
Re the necklace, I believe Susie made it herself from pompom trim. Check the DIY section.
It looks too cute on! Especially loving the first pic, with the short sleeves.
No one wears the bubblegum tent better than you, quite a sexy look. All the best, Diane
I knew I could count on you guys to be pro-Bubble gum tents….really many thanks!
Sadie: Office sizing runs pretty regular – just match back the European sizes just to be sure.
Moon_Custafar: You’re right about the necklace!
Yes, the pic on the right was on Facehunter….
YOU LOOK AWESOME! no, they’ve not been shooting looks of derision: quite the opposite. Go you! =D
♥ +x&o’s!
Hi, I was just wondering if you altered your pink pinafore? Its supposed to be free size right..? Cuz I got one and reveals the undies! :p Thanks!
