Stud U Like

Carrie Bradshaw from Sex & the City skipping along the sidewalk musing about how she wanted to spend the afternoon finding the perfect $5 dress to go with her $500 shoes is something that has always strangely stuck in my mind.  It’s obviously not a set formula that I can always adhere to, given I don’t always have a $500 wodge in my pocket (though when you work it back at the current exchange rate, ¬£250 doesn’t sound so bad…. ok, mustn’t digress!).  However, I’m quite set on completing the formula with these Marc Jacobs Nalux studded flats.  Yikes-ahoy!  $575 for a pair of flats!  But the leather does look buttery soft and those coated studs are the perfect accompaniment.  They come in black or white, of which I’d opt for the cream just because I shamefully want the distressed dirt marks they’d accumulate if I wore them out to Barfly.

Then what to do about the $5 dress?  Well, in the theme of studs, eBay turfed up with this 60’s black leather studded tunic with side fasteners.  Leather garments that aren’t shoes or jackets would strike many with fear.  However, the dress being an ample size 18 actually works in its favour.  Seeing as I have no desire to look like some kind of Hell’s Angels biker babe fantasies nor am I in a fit shape to be sporting tight leather, the fact that it is loose works for me.  It’s like all the volume we’ve been seeing in dresses instilled in the unexpected form of a leather dress.

Studs on dresses and shoes should sound so wrong but when all that leather and metal come in the simple equation of loose tunic and girlish bananna flats, well…. it just all makes perfect studly sense.

  1. :/ i think my only thing about shoes like that is that you could probably make them yourself for twenty quid

  2. I’d wear your outfit!:) The idea wearing leather in a larger size to underline the volume is a great idea!

  3. ..the shoes are beautyful but totally not worth the price…if i could spend $ 500 on shoes they have to be a lot more appealing than black flats…but in a fashion unlogic (or Logic)way of thinking the $ 5 for the dress had totally balanced the outfit budget…;)

  4. great find. Love the black pair since the studs are kind of ‘hidden’. But barfly? Susie?! what year are you living in?! Please! hahaha i’m just teasing you. it’s a great suggestion for one to make them oneself. I may just try that! Time to find the gluegun!

  5. Haha…Meg, I like to sit in Barfly and reminisce about sitting in the exact same spot when I was 14…. it’s nostalgic…

  6. Hey susie,
Um Repetto just designed a very similar pair that was customized by Comme des garcons, just to let you know.
    Ciao.
