Kate Moss blah blah blah…

Ok, so the press went crazy, the people went crazy, the store was crazy and the site is still crazy. Yet amidst all this craziness, I have to say…. I’m feeling zero enthusiasm, zero desire and zero interest in the ‘width=1500,height=1000,scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,toolbar=yes,directories=yes,location=yes,menubar=yes,status=no,left=0,top=0’);
return false” href=”http://www.catwalkqueen.tv”>Catwalk Queen pronto – at least 10 posts with all sorts of fandangled video footage. If like me though, you’re a bit non-plussed about it all, I say just enjoy the Simian Mobile Disco song.

  1. i have to agree with you on this one, i think the song was the best part as well. kate barely modeled at all in the window, what a disapointment.

  2. They really went all out with the goody bags, I heard you got a croissant at the Glasgow opening! I’m sick of all this about Kate Moss, in the papers all the time with a dubious looking nose, looking minging. Then open Vogue, shes doing every campaign going, airbrushed with that famous David Bowie toothed, open mouthed pose. People say shes effortlessly stylish. For the love of god, she’s been dressed by the finest designers for years. Wouldn’t we all pick up a few tips? I have nothing against her personally, SHE IS JUST A MODEL though, neither her or her clothes have ever said anything significant, ever. Just don’t get me started on Sienna Miller.

  3. I’m with you on this one, Susie. I looked at the collection preview in Vogue, I looked online. I found nothing likeable about it. Perhaps I don’t think I could’ve even forced myself to like it, & perhaps I’m biased because I don’t really think much of Kate Moss’ style, but I really did think the entire collection was horrible. Horrible!

  5. totally agree- the collection itself was soooo dull, more like the usual topshop blah that lingers around miserably in the dregs of their sales. I’m so sick of all the media fuss over it – but I guess it’s a victory for tabloid culture. The only reason that damn woman is still ‘iconic’ is because she’s smart enough to keep herself floating in the papers, not for any innovative contribution to fashion. Sure she looks good, but she’s tall, thin and relatively pretty, so it’s not exactly difficult. If she’d just retired to the cotswolds and looked after her baby girl, I’m sure she’d fade from our collective consciousness pretty quick.

  9. everything looked so cheap. too knock-offish. denim hot pants? how many girls do you know who can or should be wearing that look?
    i think topshop will put a spin on and say that everything sold out in a matter of hours. but i bet you if you go back today, everyone will be in line returning the items they bought because it’s falling apart. the real test will be the barney’s NY reaction. i think it will flop.

  11. I went to the Strand branch yesterday but the only thing I really fancied was the tattoo print kaftan dress.
    I’ve noticed though that this dress has been selling online for ¬£60 when it cost me only ¬£45!
    With delivery costs, it looks like online buyers are being forced to pay £20 more for the same dress. What a rip-off !!!

  12. I’m in total agreement too. Boring! Some of the clothes are quite cute but nothing that I can be bothered to actually click on and buy – let alone queue all day to purchase. Meh. The Moss backlash has been gathering momentum for a while but it seems that there are still thousands of (brainwashed?) people out there who want to be her. Or at least dress like her.

  14. I totally agree with you – awesome music! Shame about the collection. And what was up with that ‘modelling’ stint for 10 whole seconds?? People queued up to see her and she only deigned to hang around for 10 seconds! Sheesh. Next time Topshop should get some REAL designers in, THEN i’d queue up for several hours to get my hands on it!
    Gonna have to go find more music by that band though! It’s mint!

  15. i went to the topshop store in trafford centre , manchester and it wasn’t half as chaotic in london which was quite surprising, there were hardly anyone there. i wasnt particularly impressed with any of the clothes either. i have a feeling i will be seeing alot of ppl wearing the same clothes for a while which has put me off purchasing anything from the collection

  16. I think it’s ridiculously rude to just stand there for 10 seconds in such a nonchalant way and walk off without even aknowledging the crowd.
    She may be admired for being ‘effortlessly cool’, but that was just…..effortless.
    It was like a big ‘piss off…I made a load of money and now I’m leaving’ to all the people who had waited there for so long.
    On that note..I can’t wait to see Simian Mobile Disco at the Bestival in September.

  17. I am with the majority, the clothes are nothing to write home about at all. But man have the media and the public gone ga ga or what? Talk about blowing things out of proportion. Now to the clothes – from what I have seen it just looks like any old tat but then I never thought she was the finest anyway. What does impress me is the marketing, it has been topnotch. I can’t see the video on this browser, is it the youtube one? I find that video hilarious, I just love the way they make it look like she had a hand in designing the collection.

  19. I popped over to Catwalk Queen to have a look at some of the pictures. There are links to photos of a very pretty “regular girl” wearing the red dress that Ms. Moss wore to the opening. I loved how that dress looked on Ms. Moss. The regular girl is sweet-looking, the dress looks like utter crap.
    If you want to look like Kate Moss in these clothes, you have to actually be Kate Moss. Otherwise, it is just you, in some rather cheap and not terribly flattering outfits.

  20. For pete’s sake. Totally ridiculous. I am with Jamie’s comment too, Moss has never done anything that makes a real statement, except for maybe getting caught putting thousands of dollars of drugs up her nose. I didn’t hate the line necessarily, but the chaos that went with it.

  21. i have to admit, i found the lookbook inspiring… the vest, and the black lam√© dress and the white muscle dress were my personal faves. but along with everything that is super hyped, our expectaions were so high, perhaps unrealistically so. it is what it is. just clothes, true style comes from within.

  22. Hi. My name is Paula and I’m from Portugal, that’s why I haven’t touched the new Kate Moss collection for TopShop. But I saw the site and I have to agree with you. It doesn’t ads anything new. I’m not a great fan of her, and it’s difficult for me to separate the collection from her style, I believe that was the intention, for me is equal to all we have seen for example in H&M. I was hopping to see something new and very stylish, but I was wrong. My mistake.

  23. i went to the launch in leeds as i got persuaded into thinking it would be an experience…
    the majority of the clothes looked fairly cheap in real life (e.g. the black cut out dress) and there wasn’t really anything that special. The black skinny jeans do fit well though.
    Thought that the flowery smock was no different to the ones in primark at the moment, and the colours were too faded on it.

  27. Oh dear, it’s not looking good is it?! Well, I thought the pics on the website and what I’d seen in magazines made the clothes look cheap but still wanted to see them in real life. Managed this morning at Oxford Circus. The clothes look better quality in the flesh but still didn’t appeal. As others have said, imagine how annoying to have your clothes be that identifiable! BUT, Philip Green has certainly done well out of it, I’m sure KM has earnt her ¬£3million fee in PR alone.

Much as I have always admired Kate Moss’s style, and actually like her as a model, I didn’t see much I liked in the collection, despite being able to get on the site and buy some of the clothes. As for Kate Moss being in the window for 10 seconds, well, I’m glad I got to see her in a window in Singapore when I saw her lying out on a couch in a hair salon. That was definitely more than 10 seconds!

  36. i agree with many above, kate’s collection was perhaps unsurprisingly disappointing.already in manchester ive seen several girls wearing the floral dress and very uninspiring they looked. i was aslo frankly appalled by her enduring love for cropped waistcoats. i did, however, enjoy the giles deacon ‘gold’ collection for new look far more.

  37. I went on the 1st of May. Totally disappointed by the whole collection. Nothing fit right, nothing looked right, and for that money, no way!!!Must say hot croissant MUST have been the highlight!
    p.s. the girl with red hair on the end looked so familiar…I realised almost towards the end that I have worked with her on a shoot :), small world

  42. Dull dull dull. I had no interest to wait in line, get up early or fight anyone for any of the pieces.
    Myself and a friend had a look round the Edinburgh branch yesterday and apart from quite liking the mustard yellow jeans, laughed at the badly made dresses in anorak material, and the long shapeless skirts.
    The best thing was maybe the tatoo floaty dress with the scary bird guys but other than that and the yellow jeans….nada.
    I didn’t even like the way they had the floaty dress displayed with a huge brown cowboy style belt with little gold horses and studs round the waist of the mannequin. Blargh! xx
