What goes with the red lip

Red lips are everywhere. Seriously. A fresh slick of red lippy straight from the tube seems to be the most favoured accessory. I’m very hesitant about it myself but love it on other people. Question is, do you prefer it with simple black like the girl on the left or jazzed up with all the colours of the rainbow like the girls on the right. Or is it like one of those things that go with everything? My wardrobe takes up so much of my time and energy that everything else just falls by the wayside. I may be forever looking on with admiration at those that wear the stark red lip.

Pics taken at the Modular Party where some of you peeps spotted a head bobbing about in a yellow headband. Say hello next time!

  1. i’m personally not brave enough to wear lipstick that bold, however i think it looks nicest when worn with simple clothes, more sophisticated maybe… i think the blonde girl in the chanel lipstick advert looks nice. However it’s possibly a bit too conventional to really make a statement.

  2. Hey… it’s true, you have to be brave enough to wear red lipstick… but if you do, it looks good to everything you wear!!! You know by every woman who do, that she’s interested in fashion… and that she cares about her style!!!

  3. I love wearing it often…it annoys my boyfriend cause there’s no kissing. It can easily get very messy, even through regular wear. Luckily I’m pale enough to sport it, but if I’m wearing dark colors, neutrals, or a touch of red, it always look best on me in those combinations. Otherwise it’s usually just lipgloss.

  4. Red lips are gorgeous…especially with dark hair. I’ve just dyed my hair black and I’m experimenting with it at the moment…I think I’ll be stepping out in a red brocade dress and matching lipstick. They also make you a man magnet! (there is some scientific reason for it…)

  5. As a freelancing makeup artist, I like it with a simple bronzy face for day, a light smokey eye for night; not a big fan of rainbow face. For day: light foundation, bronzer, mascara, groomed eyebrows, and bright red lips. For night, just line your eyes with black cream liner and smudge the line. I am quite spontanously(sp.)obsessed with wearing red lips these days, and just knew it is actually a trend.

  6. I love red lip stick, I wear it during the day to high school, I particularly like wearing it when Im wearing red, but I think it looks fine with everything

  7. I love it and wear it even though it makes my olive skin look a bit sallow. I think red lips look good with simple shapes, not necessarily all black. Eg. Bright coloured pencil skirt + white tee + gold heels.

  8. i think red goes with anything – but i would say that as i’m rarely to be seen without a slick of the stuff on… comments such as ‘i know you’re ill because you aren’t wearing lipstick’.
it all depends on the shade though – if you’re a die-hard wearer who feels undressed without such trappings, its important to have a few shades as not all shades go with everything. I personally have 3 on hand which each complement different colour schemes of outfits lol.

  9. my lips are thick but my mouth is small – stark red lipstick would make them look like a strawberry on a dinner plate as I have a round flat face (Im asian this explains why) and THAT would be kinda strangelooking! i do not like red lipstick so much anyways..

  10. The scientific reason men like red lips is because they remind them of a woman’s swollen vula when she’s aroused. Just thought I should elaborate.
Think about the implications next time you ponder a horrible lipstick colour like blue or black, ladies. Urgh.

  11. Oh your headband is super cute Susie, it really pops against your hair..and you look like you’re having fun.
Those are some super funky tights up there…they’d take as much courage to wear as the red lippie. It’s tough for me to find makeup that doesn’t make my yellowish skin look washed out, so mostly it’s just a bit of lip balm for me.

  12. As a ubiquitous wearer of red lipstick, I thought I should speak up. It is a brave thing to wear bright colours on the lips, not just red. As I’m a very pale person, I like it to put a little colour on my face. It’s hard to get right though; it does “bleed” very easily. However, as I’ve been wearing it for so many years, I would feel naked without a slick of red on my mouth. I do dress predominately in black, so there are no clashing problems there, yet even when I wear other colours, it still seems to look okay.

  13. To the kitten who posted above – the way you describe your face reminds me somewhat of Devon Aoki, the model/actress, who I’ve seen carry off crimson lipstick before. I think it could work if you experiment with the shades!
Personally I love red lipstick, I just need to find a decent shade because as it is, I either look like a freshly-fed vampire or a like my face is too wide with narrow features. Hard to explain…

  14. i love red lipstick, i’ve rediscovered wearing bright colours like hot pink and red just in the past few months. I just dyed my hair back to a very blonde shade and have yet to try the red lipstick since having dark dark hair. But I think it looks good with anything, as long as you’re confident and wear a smile!

  15. red lips go with everyone and everything really. they make you look feminine and erotic in an instant, whatever type you are. i personally prefer plain colours, wearing red lips as an accessoire, but that’s just me. anyways, i always loved red lips, they are adorable.
