When I go shopping with people and they start to grab stuff exclaiming ‘Susie, that top/dress/skirt is SOOOOOO you!’, I have to be skeptical. It’s not that I don’t trust other people’s judgement but it’s that well, my tastes are so varying and ever-changing that anything that is seemingly ‘SO Susie’ one day is probably ‘so-UN Susie’ the next day. However, when a friend kept on speaking of a certain yellow dress at Zara, my ears did perk up a little. For some god forsaken reason, I’m really taking a fancy to Zara this season even though my head tells me that the quality is a little on the dubious side. The friend’s description went something like ‘It’s got these huge poofy tiers in the most vibrant shade of yellow.’ Tiers and yellow. Ok, I’m very interested.
Then on several bus rides down Oxford and Regent Street, what kept popping out at me in Zara’s window displays. That freaking dress! I had to concede that for once someone had got the ‘SO Susie’ guess spot on. I wanted it. I had to have it. Even Kingdom of Style’s discerning conclusion of the dress didn’t deter me. In the end after trawling through several branches, I had to settle for a soiled version of the dress as the last size small had this hideous foundation mark down the front (when you get marks like that, you have to wonder how much make-up people are trawling on their faces…..).
A bit of dry cleaning later and I’m loving it. The tiers are SO big, SO poofy, SO weighty – therefore SO me. Call me a lemon meringue, a giant daffodil or a yellow mess of a clown, I may be all those things…..

Hahaha!! Yes I did indeed look like I’d been swallowed by a flower, but that was simply because I was just too skinny to even remotely suit something as poofy. It just took over my whole body and I disappeared. Plus, my skin colour is too pale for the kind of yellow it was. I just looked stupid in it. Had it had smaller, finer tiers I could have maybe gotten away with it, as it would have suited my frame better. But as it was it was like “is there a girl somewhere in that dress?!”
love – that dress has a serious sense of humour! ;-D very daffodil like.
not sure it’s really day wear, but out clubbing will look immense!
wr are ur leggings from?

I love that dress on you. Love it. It renews my faith in that dress; I may have to go and try it on again.
Somehow I keep thinking wearing a pair of indigo skinny jeans will look amazing with this. 🙂 Love it! 😛
hi susie, its amazing that we actually have the same taste for this dress that i actually had a post for this dress on my blog a few weeks ago. haha. when i saw this dress, i knew i immediately had to get it.

It’s a literal case of it being the dress for you…nicely worn, Susie. Though, as I gather from Queen Michelle’s commentary, it’s a challenging thing to pull off, it really does look nice here- especially with your hair.
oooooh. yeah. It’s one of thos swoooshy dance dresses where it makes you swooshy dance for no reason but the feel and movement of it. LOVE IT!
i really didn’t think it was viable for daily life but you’ve proved me wrong! you look fantastic in this dress, Susie.
oooh, that dress looks amazing!
How much was it?
OMG! You got the dress I’ve been lusting after. I couldn’t get my size and now I think it’s sold out. I’ll try and call around again. BTW, you look fantastic wearing it!
yes i love this dress too!!!
i grabbed it in zara with 4 the other dresses but didn’t know why i didn’t get this at the end…it looks really cute on you
Love it. I’m so jealous–you wear yellow a lot better than I do!
Dress looks absolutely fabulous! Also I was just wondering if you could recommend where to buy basic tops and skirts online, like racer backs and plain navy or grey skirt or something which aren’t designer but are quite affordable and good quality as having no luck anywhere! Thanks very much for any help. xxx
This has not really anything to do with this post, but anyway, I just read the swedish magazine Modette and I saw that you have written an article there! I was suprized, in a very nice way. I have read your blog in a couple of months now, and I really like what you write!
I’d like everybody’s oppinion: here are some tops + a dress I designed and created MYSELF; after that I asked my model bff to pose for me so we did a photoshoot (in her room, it was the only grey part of a wall available and in a corner, you’re young and you deal with what you have!)
I took the photos, thought of the concept (clean, simple, modern) got her in my new, put-together designs and we stared having fun for about 6 hours!!! It’s crazy, fun, but exhausting too!
So if you want to check them out go to (there are 7 different outfits):

I’d like to know what you all fashionistas out there think about this shoot (I love fashion too). SO please leave comments and critique!
I appreciate everybody who reads this and shows interest.

Looks so great on you. No daffodils there, just gorgeous contrast and even more gorgeous tiers.
I tried it on at Zara, but I look awful in yellow. Shall live vicariously through you!
That dress is just perfect for you. Nice touch with the leggings–unexpected, and you made it work.
I’m a big fan of yellow, even in the winter when everyone are supposed to wear drab colors. I’ve often been told that my yellow puffer literally brightens people’s day.
ooh i love it. it reminds me of the shirt Debbie Harry wears in Hairspray
Ah! I tried this dress on but was shopping with my sister and sister in law and they were not impressed…let’s say that their fashion sense isn’t as creative as my own. But in any case, I didn’t buy it. But am considering going back to get it.
This is why I shop alone – people have no sense of adventure when it comes to style.
DJM, hehe, is that a sly dig at my um, not so skinny bod? Yeah, I can see how on someone a lot slighter, the dress would drown them. I guess in this case being a little “rotund” helps? ; )
Thanks for all the Zara yellow loving. I say if you see it in stores, nab it and try it on because it might surprise you. Post note though, I got a TON of stares and giggles wearing it out yesterday, and this was in Soho London so wear it with a lot of bravada. Even so, the dress still made me feel happy as can be….
Ha! Oh no Susie, not at all (I don’t do sly digs – I’ll just come right out and say it! LOL!) it’s just that I’m of a very slight build, so poofy + layers + bright colour = the amazing disappearing girl!
zara and basso & brooke – even if you were a real daffodil you would stand out
x x x
Liza… channelling B&B with Zara… that would be miraculous indeed!
Cass: Forgot to say the leggings are from KTZ – Kokon To Zai’s own range – when you finish exams at Cambridge, come on down to the Greek Street as these leggings are selling out fast I hear!
I almost never trust my friends when they comment on my clothing… I’m so paranoid and think that they’re either lying or trying to make me look fat and/or ugly…
But that dress is made for you…
ohhhh susie, i read your blog every day! it’s my homepage. i rarely comment but you are NOT slightly rotund! this is coming from a 95-pound munchkin (i’m 4’11…but i still love fashion). you’re as slender as can be!
and i adore yellow. that dress is amaaaazing.
Your black hair complements the yellow colour of the dress perfectly.
No joke, I was walking past Zara on Long Acre the other day and Kim pointed out the dress to me, to which I replied “I love it but only on the right person. Susie Bubble could wear it…”
Et voila! It really is SO you.
Gemma…that well and truly is freaky!
Hey Susie… I’m the editor of a magazine for teenagers in Mexico City… Lilly Allen were in Mexico a couple of weeks ago and we had the chance to shoot a cover with her for our magazine…. I specifically asked the stylist to pick that yellow dress from Zara for the shooting, along with some other stuff from American Apparel… turns out Lilly loved it (even tough it was a bit small on her) and insisted on using it for the cover… After the shoot I tought about keeping the dress, but it really is a one-wear-only in Mexico.
Love your blog!

It looks like the Red Gucci dress that Emma Roberts was wearing on the cover of (american) Teen Vouge
But it is darling
WHERRE CAN I FIND???
I was visiting my friend who was helping with production of a lavendar diamond music video and I saw the lead singer from io echo who was there making a cameo in a scene wearing the yellow zara dress. I’ve been stalking this dress, and consequently I’m really into this chicks band/style. I asked half jokingly if she thought the stylist would lend it to me and she said, “well i was my own stylist this time round, it belongs to me!” O well she was nice enough to let me get a pic on my cell. WHERE CAN I BUY THIS DRESS?????? There must be a Zara somewhere that hasn’t sold out of it.

i have that exact dress too. i fell in love with it as soon as i saw it. the colour is to die for.
Susie- i LOVE that dress on you.
have you seen the new petal shirt dress by Thakoon for the Gap (past of the CFDA/Vogue collab)? I picked it up yesterday and adore it, and it also reminded me of you…
You look cute! And i’m totally loving that yellow this season.
bad choice on the tights…
ooh susie, it looks so cute on you.
i tried it in an XS and i’m far too much of a chicken to wear it…besides my bf said i looked like a banana…booo.
more power to ya!
xoxo,
kd
I have a dress this color, different though, a chiffon shift dress – very retro looking – and I’m wearing it to an evening wedding and don’t know what color shoes to wear – any suggestions?

they remind me of the karen walker tights from her “karen to the rescue” collection
OMG i want that dresss!! too bad it’s sold out here. i’ve searched for it islandwide >.< oh well. it looks good on you tho but i think itll look better w black tights :))
I love it!
Do you know where one can find KTZ leggings in the states? I’ve been looking for their contact info…I am opening a new womens webshop this fall and would love to have their stuff
It results in a brighter display that offers better color reproduction, is thinner and lighter, and draws less power.
