The Humble T-shirt

Despite having a plethora of things to wear, I’m finding myself turning back to the humble t-shirt more and more these days.  I must be reliving those 2002 days when all you saw me wearing was this vintage NY Mets t-shirt that I loved loved loved and would wear with vintage slip skirts, poofy dresses underneath or even tucked into pencil skirts and tux trousers.   I call the t-shirt humble but it seems these days, they are the accessible must-have things.  Look at House of Holland and its success and don’t get me started about the number of HoH rip-off shirts I have seen everywhere (yes, Topshop, your ‘Save the Rave’ t-shirt isn’t impressing anybody…).   I have just recently been turned onto To-orist when I was shopping at Kokon to Zai whose graphic t-shirts are a little funny, a little odd and very colourful.  They make putting a multi-coloured brain on a t-shirt the most sane thing ever.  You can buy most of them on Supra Fly.  I’m most definitely after the tuxedo shirt to wear with some tuxedo trousers or the television shirt with my silver lame knife pleated skirt.  It’s the five year cycle for me since I spent 2002 smartening up t-shirts, I’ll do the same in 2007 – only the t-shirts have gotten a lot smarter too.

  1. heyy thr! your blog is really addictive. i’ve been tagging along it for quite some time. ha! i love the second shirt the most.

  2. I’d get the shirt on the left of the second row for sheer gross-out value. And the HoH t-shirts work because they weren’t just funny, they managed to get the lettering and size right.
And yeah, the TopShop ‘Save The Rave’ t-shirt is just a bit meh.

  3. i think the tuxedo tee would look great with a maxi skirt – quite tempted by the green school shirt but its only available in white on suprafly (sob!)… think that one would look so fun with white or blue shorts on the beach – very just william – for summer… oh the joy! 😀 xxxc

  4. i *LOVE* the tuxedo jacket one. I went straight on to that website, planning to buy it. And then I realised that I’m a penniless student and cannot afford to spend £65 on such things. How disappointing!

  5. wow those tshirts are so cool>< love the first two but especially the tux one. went on the site. but. i don't have that much money. do you know what shops stock it internationally?

  6. I’ve really been loving the t-shirt lately. I just discovered a shop hidden in a Mong Kok mall that has t-shirts designed by a local artist on the island and have been snatching them up whenever they go on sale. I love them for dolling up, especially now as it’s getting warmer!

  7. i actully went along to supra fly the over day in the hope of buying one of the to-orist sweaters but the stock is quite limited and disappointingly they are not as cool in reality as on the website…
