The New Face

I have to admit, I’m really rubbish at remembering various models’ names (actually, I’m just bad at remembering names in general!), but a face will instantly be imprinted on my memory.  I was very curious to find out more about the girl who picked up this season’s Jil Sander ad because I had never seen her before and I loved her expression in the ads.  Her name is Tayla Collins and she hails from Atlanta, GA.  She has now signed with NYMM and has been in i-D, Pop, Vogue Italia and photographer Steven Meisel is said to be a fan of her look which will probably mean that big things are heading her way.  Her face for me is just very fresh and I love that doe-eyed dreamy look about her.  These pics are from her new editorial in the noir issue of Numero entitled ‘Back in Black’ (Ph: Daniel Jackson).

  1. ugly is cool and modern beauty is old….. puagggg i love the beauty, i love the clothes beauty , models beauties… claudia, christy and anja of course , cities beauty……

  2. I read a lot of fashion magazines, and after a while, the faces blend together. When I saw Tayla’s work for Jil Sander, I stopped and didn’t turn the page for a long time. I really love her “intellectual” look and the fact that she looks like an adult and not a girl. I think that’s been missing from fashion for a very long time, models who look like women and not like frail kids, and it’s a look I really respond to. She reminds me very much of Audrey Marnay and Natascha McElhone. She’s very distinctive, and I’m hoping that we see a lot more of her.

  3. she’s adorable! her ears remind me of twiggy. i’ll definitely be looking for her in future ads. has she done runway? thanks for pointing her out susie.. 🙂

  4. shes my new favorite model. plus we have a little something in common. She ahs that striking odd beauty that i think true supermodels are supposed to have. and i think that jil sander add is genius.

  5. She has modelled for Anthropologie. I remember her face from the catalogue.

  6. She is DEFINITELY too skinny. Looks like she was in a concentration camp for 2 years. Yuck.

  7. She is beautiful. I love her look.
Models are skinny that’s the way it is. You can effect change by voicing your pleasure at viewing models with different body types in the media. Make your preference known to fashion publications. I too would like to see diversity of body type but bashing this model or any other woman will not help. She is not your enemy. It’s insensitive and overly simplistic to insult people who are large or fat and so too is it to comment on the thin. Her face is unusual in our sometimes Barbie world. Our desire for this type of representation is being heard.

  8. She is naturally thin. HAs always been a big eater. I’ve seen her eat 5 tacos at one sitting. Of course, I think she’s a ‘natural’ beauty. Very proud of her

  9. ^Thank you Tayla’s grandma for stopping by and commenting! I never thought Tayla looked too thin at all……. most definitely a natural beauty!
You should be very proud of her! I look forward to seeing more of her.

  10. I knew Tayla as a child and she has always been very thin and beautiful. She was a friend of my daughters and such a sweet and smart little girl.I am so proud of her success.
