Freak that I am, whilst most of the world are in the middle of a heat wave, I go off and do a styling sesh with black clothes. My inspiration surprisingly came from the July issue of US Elle (I REALLY don’t normally buy this magazine but I needed something to get me through a dentist’s appointment wait). This issue had an editorial showing a lot of black flooded in with sunlight. Funnily enough, black is one of those colours I don’t usually wear, because I find it a little oppressive and despite it’s classic qualities a little severe for me. But I was determined to make what I had in my wardrobe that was black look interesting and a bit special. Might even tempt me to wear all-black ensembles instead of cluttering it up with my fandangled-ness.
Vintage black leotard, TS Boutique black sequin and satin panelled skirt, sequin cummerband belt, Salvatore Ferragamo black bow pumps // Vintage deep v, tiered black dress, Dorothy Perkins black snakeskin sandals

hmm….black doesn’t really suit you though…i still perfer your other cool colourful outfits =)
I think you’re the only person I know that looks fat in black.
Love the Alexander McQueen cape!
Black is one of those mood colors for me- I’ll only do all black if I’m in a mood. I think black suits you fine though.
I really like the “Vintage deep v, tiered black dress” outfit and the “Vintage black jacket w/ satin bow at back” outfit. They are lovely, good work with the diy on the sleeves of the jacket.
By the way I love your blog and read it daily, keep up the good work and thanks for so much inspiration!
Well, well, the mysterious ‘a’ (is that short for a***hole?) strikes again! You must be so proud of yourself, making rude and bitchy comments like that, how grown up, how sophisticated. Girls like you make me feel so superior as I (and Susie and everyone else on here who comments) maintain our diginity by never being bitchy or catty, whereas you, display all your vile insecurities for everyone to see everytime you post a reply on this blog (and probably everytime you open your mouth).
Susie, as always, you look fab. I particularly love the vintage dress with the deep V and the McQueen cape.
I love all these outfits but the leggings outfit is definately a winner!
Ditto DJM’s comment.
I’m already into fall black as well. Unfortunately, it’s too hot to wear layers of it. I love the second and fifth outfits!
Haha…in my delirious half-asleep state I read a’s comment as ‘fab’ instead of ‘fat’. How confident am I!
Oh well…I guess black is never gonna be my colour….that was the point of this excercise!
Nonsense! Black is as much your colour as any other! You look very nice in all those outfits, infact I know of very few people who can pull of wearing leggings as actual trousers (as opposed to wearing them as an under layer), but you can!
Great to see you in all black, my favourite color. Would love to see you do it more often!
I particularly love the tiered dress in #2, everything in outfit #4, and the McQueen cape in #5.
Wow!! I love this little dress-up set you did. I’m a huge fan of black (whether mixed with other neutrals/colors or on its own) and the trend for all-black ensembles has got me really excited for fall. lol. Your outfits have really inspired me as well; you put together a lux look with all-black, but still the outfits are so appropriate for daytime wear. 1, 2, 4, and 5 are my favs. Keep it up–your blog really inspires me!!
very, very clever how you put the elle spreads in the background! love it!
OMG! Susie you look sooo chic’ I LOVE the all-black look on you, totaly inspiring for me, as black is one of my main colours. xx pucci_mama on tfs.
Susie,
I just wanna say I absolutely love your style and I want to thank you for the daily inspiration you give me. Keep up the good work.
