Cheap as chips vintage is rampant all over eBay, except it’s often deceptively cheap because a nine day listing starting at 99 cents can often find it’s price climbing rapidly over that period of time. However, check out this bulk lot of 30 dresses starting at 99 Australian cents. Did you read that clearly – 30 DRESSES! If nobody bids against you, that would work out at 3.3 cents a dress. I’m not even going to try and work out the equivalent in British pounds but it’s miniscule!
Of course, I’m not saying this bulk lot consists of 30 fantabulous-heartstopping dresses. There is the good, the just about do-able, the bad and just darnright ugly.
Day Dresses – No muss, no fuss, just don a dress and off you go to work/school. These are no-brainer outfits.
Jewel Tones – Great for swamping with black come fall/winter or just looking vibrant when gloom has sunken in.
It’s all Peachy – I can’t say this is a colour that works on everyone (least of all me!) but I do like the delicate floral dress. The other two, I could give a miss…
Long Evening Stunners – There may not be many occasions to wear these but you could definitely dress the two white ones down a bit for the day, perhaps layer things over – short over long – something we’ll be seeing a LOT this fall.
Something a bit Special – These dresses caught my eye the most, these are the ones I’d buy by themselves for a more substantial sum of money. I’m on the lookout for tartan that doesn’t scream novelty Scottish dress. The billowy sleeves on the blue dress are pretty cool with the airbrushed print. I like the draping on the black dress – I’d wear it over grey jeans and chunky boots. The print on that long smock dress is also a bit Ossie-Clark esque which I love.
The Decade that Just Won’t Leave – A whiff of 60’s is still in the air and I’d wear this dress with some grey ribbed tights and a grey slouchy hat to balance out the girly coral colour. The Jackie O’ Pale blue suit, I would actually wear with a pillbox hat, cliche that it is – a look I’ve been meaning to visit.
Lurid Florals – These are florals that unfortunately, I would not touch with a bargepole. They also appear to be made of fabrics that would give you rashes.
Just send ’em to trash – The stuff that I can’t envision myself ever wearing. Nasty bright tie dye? Long bright turquoise lace? Unforgiving stretchy lilac? And an amalgamation of colours that I never knew could exist? Thanks but no thanks…

the interesting thing is, some of the dresses you hated (ie. the “unforgiving purple one” and the floral ones) I quite liked.
Perhaps, if one person bought the bulk lot, they could sell off their personal rejects to people who had opposite opinions…..
Either way, it’s such a bargain!
The Royal blue one in the second column third along is similar to a dress made by Australian designer called Alice McCall the dress is called Love Is A Drug and it’s soldout everywhere I think it gets sold for crazy prices on ebay !
^ Alice McCall is so overrated. The Love Is A Drug dress is ugly and not even worthy of it’s hype, then again the hype was only in Australia which explains a lot..
Ruth, thanks – I didn’t spot that similarity. Alice McCall got a LOT of hype here when she showed her collection in February at London Fashion Week. Personally, I don’t think the clothes live up to the hype but she does design some cute, wearable things.
I didn’t know there was such a hype though for the dress!
I love that But sizes…aren’t they different? Anyway I’m Cherry and I have been reading your blog for a while and thought it was pretty cool so I thought I would drop you some comments…anyways check out my new fashion blog and if you are cool you would maybe…promote me a bit on your site (Wink) You dont have to but…consider it. Thanks!

It exchanges for twice the original value on ebay. Personally I think it’s a pretty dress but even if it was selling at it’s original price and it was in my size I still wouldn’t be tempted to buy it. I think the hype originates from the fact that whilst the Australian high street isn’t terrible , it just doesn’t compare to the likes of Topshop etc. As for those dresses above I am useless at being able to recognise the potential in something and turn it into something amazing but I have huge amounts of admiration for those who can.
Apparently the postage to the US is $190! Maybe not such a steal afterall.
^Yikes! That’s really sneaky….. to up the price on the postage and then trick ppl with a 99 cent starting pirce! Sorry guys….. will be more vigilant next time!
That dress so does not look like love in s a dug!!
do u need glasses?
