Ugly Cool

I feel with these boots, I need to take a leaf out of Shoewawa‘s book and do a Yay or Nay.  I’m quite frequently attracted to shoes that to some people could be the ugliest effing things in the world.  Case in point, these 40’s brown suede shoes with elastic were an eBay score from a while ago.  They’re not particularly beautiful to look at, yet I think it’s a case of ‘They’re so ugly, they’re kind of cool!.’   I think it’s the same thing with these Faith boots

I mean, they have a whole lot going against them, poor things – spangly glitter fabric, the sort of round toe that might not be particularly flattering, an ankle length boot that begs the question how is one supposed to wear them.  Yet, when I look at them, I see cute big buttons, a shiny-ness that’s counterbalanced by the crackled beige leather (yes, it’s real leather!), and a good sturdy heel (I have a suspicious fear of spindly stilettos).  I see myself pairing them with all kinds of plain drab dresses and skirts to zing up outfits – kind of like feet shockers.  But am I the only one rocking myself in a corner, sadly trying to convince mysel that these are the coolest things I’ve seen in a long time?  I leave it to you.

  1. Susie I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that you can pull off both of these so-bad-they-are-good pairs! If ya got killer insticts trust em….and you got em!

  2. Yay to the Faiths, absolutely. And yay to the first ones-I saw my grandma wearing shoes just like them in black last night, and swear to god, found myself thinking they’d look so good on someone young with the right outfit. Granny chic may sound oxymoronic, but that creates the best fashion! It’s all about the tongue in cheek-iness.

  3. never doubted the Faith ones~! would have worn them without a faintest notion that i would have ugly feet lol

  4. me, personally, i see a lot of potential in pieces that people would normally dislike. but i don’t see anything wrong at all with the ankle boots! they’re perfect! i can see how the brown shoes might scream “granny chic,” but if paired with the right clothes, i think it can look just as awesome.

  5. I say nay to the second ones, but oh how I adore the first ones! I’ve been looking for a pair of shoes like that for what feels like centuries!

  6. the mismatched seam on the toe looks cheap. otherwise though, they’re fab.

  7. Yay to the first ones – the shape of it is cute but I don’t like the elastic. You have such an amazing style though that they’ll both look great whatever you pair them with!
