Ropey Plait

By ropey, I of course don’t mean bad (for those in the UK!).  This was taken outside the RCA show today where there were literally hordes of fashionistas, all probably non-pros like me seeing as it was the ‘General Public’ show rather than the press show which is today.  This girl was right in front of me and I just couldn’t stop staring at her cool plait.  I had a go at doing this with some strips of floral fabric when I was going through my Heidi phase (a la Kirsten Dunst at Cannes).  If you have a long hair, this is quite a cool way of accessorising your hair.  I think this girl has used some Oriental style cording, similar to those tassels you see on Chinese lanterns.  You could even have the cord/fabric going over your head as a headband and then coming down round the back to plait down with your hair.  Kind of like a hair one-piece?  Ok, must really stop my fixation with one-pieces……

  1. That does look cool. A lot of women wear it in India with traditional indian clothes, but mostly at weddings. The tassles however, are larger and always brightly coloured with a some gold/silver thread and the rope is black so that it blends with the hair colour.
Can’t seem to find a picture of it on the net.

  2. i: Unfortunately not… we didn’t hang around long outside because they shuffled us inside pretty quickly (there were 3 RCA shows yesterday one after the other!) and then they shuffled us out just as quickly afterwards! I wish I could have taken more pics…..

  3. I like it when femmes weave ribbons etc. through their plaits- it can look quite elegant (as opposed to young Heidi) when done in a classy way.
