I know I know….I keep promising more Bubble Cam action but finding an afternoon to dawdle around the streets asking random people for a photo is just getting harder and harder these days. Thank goodness the latest issue of FUSED magazine (a Birmingham-based fashion, art, lifestyle mag) is all about STREET STYLE. Here are their pics that they have taken to illustrate London and Birmingham.
Now I know I’m a little biased seeing as I’m a Londoner and I really shouldn’t comment because I haven’t been to Birmingham that many times but for me, the London ones just about have the edge over the Brummies. Maybe it’s the quirkiness of some of the clothes in the London pics that appeals to me whereas the Birmingham ones are a tad generic. It could just be the people they chose to photograph. Oh god….. I had better pray a Brummie isn’t reading this….or worse….one of the people on that page!

yup, London street style and birmingham street. that’s the difference. or maybe all the good people were hiding. try brighton if you want suburbs with style!
Well judging from the two pics – London street style is way more original than Birmingham (love the jacket centre pic of the London page).
Thanks for the link. You rock Bubble.

Lol, well not exactly, but I hail from around those parts and used to work in Brum. But now I’m in the capital I definitely agree that London has the edge. Trends seem to take longer to move up the country (though technically speaking Birmingham is the Midlands, not the north, just to be pedantic!), and I have things I’d be laughed at for wearing by my friends from home. That said, there are still some very stylish girls in the Midlands!
yup. london beats birmingham, definitely.
Yup, I agree with you on the London-Birmingham thing. The londoners (especially the girl in green in the top right hand corner) looked more individual and unique, whereas birmingham street style just seemed like a bunch of emo kids posing…
I’ve lived in Birmingham my whole life and I’m afraid the pics in Fused are really not a good representation of the style here! There are some really fab vintage shops and flea markets, and plenty of charity shops, so you do get some amazing looking individuals. But I’m sad to admit the myspace/emo/scene crowd is HUGE here, and the indie explosion has spawned many followers. Look harder though and you find the true individuality, as Birmingham has such a wide range of cultures and fashions.
But with that, I must admit London does have a bigger ratio of fab looking people; I guess it’s easier to blend in there so people can dress more eccentrically, where as here it’s easier to follow a trend but still look different to most.
By the way, I adore your blog! It’s pure love.
Hopefully I’ll get into a university in London this year, so shall be cruising the streets of London on a daily basis! And I’ve just realised that I do know someone in those pics (wow Bham must be small!) and she is the biggest trend follower of all! x
