Vintage Luxe

Everyone knows we are living in the new age of logo-mania.  Coming from a place like Hong Kong where it’s all about carrying the latest Vuitton, Gucci or Dior, I feel sort of lost and out of place because I don’t really ‘get’ this whole bag obsession.  When I’m browsing in airport duty free, these bags seem sort of tacky to me – I mean, great if someone gives me one as a gift but I really would not consider saving up for one myself.  Yet somehow, a vintage Dior or Chanel bag really does it for me!  I think it’s like buying into a big designer house without coming off looking like some kind of footballer’s wife.  They also seem to go with my outfits much better than all the shiny new bags with bling bling rivets.  I guess I’m just one of those strange people who like things a bit old and crusty.

Here are a selection from eBay which get my vote:

Louis Vuitton Monogram Petite Bucket

Chanel quilted black lambskin tote

Dior navy logo canvas clutch with matching wallet

Gucci briefcase/tote

There might be something very un-fashionable or dated about these bags but I think you can really wear them in a way that brings them forward.  A perfect example is and I hate to admit it, the way scenster chick Cory Kennedy wears vintage labels.  She gets the style totally right.  Dressing her Louis Vuitton bucket down or wearing the Gucci logo sweater without taking it seriously really works.

These Mario Sorrenti shots from Another Magazine 8th Issue also showcases what really should be dismissed as tacky logo-ed up clothing but somehow, they end up looking fantastic.

  1. Am really happy to be on your roll! Because this blog is so entertaining. Packed with ideas. Maybe I’m not very bright, but I find it quite difficult to leave comments on some templates. Sometimes, I’ve already popped in & can’t remember what personal info or code I left. I know – leave exactly the same one everywhere! But, that feels like wearing the same thing every day, & sometimes a letter or typo makes all the difference. Scaree Gee-Oh! will be back ! I
