Take some old curtains and come up with this….

I seem to be more green than I thought I was (as in eco-friendly not the colour though at times my skin can be sickly pale like that…and I have now just gone off on a tangent….) because having featured Junky Styling earlier I have now discovered Prouvorst and Father  who fashion the new from the old i.e. using old material to come up with unique designs.  Perhaps it’s the contrast that I’m attracted to – the old and the new rather than the actual eco-friendliness of the idea (though in this day and age, it is something we should all be conscious about).

Their speciality is making reversible garments with different combinations of fabrics so no two pieces are the same.  Materials range from old P&O Ferry blankets to bedspreads from the Ritz Hotel.  It’s not even just taking old clothes and giving them an new lease of life.  It is literally recycling the unwanted fabrics, the stuff that people would not think twice about.

I have seen this label being stocked at Urban Outfitters in London at very reasonable prices (not sure whether it’s stocked in the US stores though because it is a British label).  Do check it out if you come across it!

  1. I love the 4th pic. The jacket is adorable 🙂
I wish I could do these things, cause I`m so bad at throwing things (especially clothes) away. They could have another life.:)

  2. In actual fact I have attempted to use some old curtains to make an outfit. I don’t know how to sew so I merely wrapped it around me ala the Indian saree.
Didn’t look too shabby, but didn’t wear it out. Next party I guess :).

  3. 🙂 I had a coat, that looked like made of a fabric that is used on sofas in living rooms. I kinda liked it, but my friends made fun of me all the time when I wore it, so I had to give it to my sister 🙁
I still miss it, I felt that it was a medieval relict..:P …silly.

  4. Tindi…that’s sad to hear and you really should have said TOSH to your friends who made fun of you! It sounded like a coat made with love….
Sha…I love non-sewing outfits that miraculously appear, I say wear it out!
I have many projects that I have in my head with the tagline ‘if only I could sew….’. I always end up getting my seamstress of a mother to help me.
