Cold War in London

Again, due to downpour this week, my Bubble Cam excursion was once again ruined.  However, as I was looking through Vogue.co.uk‘s streetstyle pictures, I thought it would be a good time to introduce to non-Londoners to the East West style divide.  Just as NYC has a uptown/downtown divide, London too has two broad fash packs. (there’s a North/South split as well but that’s a whole different story altogether!)

You have the East London (Hoxton, Shoreditch, Brick Lane) fashion brigade.  They are most likely to be seen eating at Canteen on the Brushfield street complex or having some bone marrow (this is yummy…I promise!) at St. John Bread & Wine and found shopping at vintage haunts like Beyond Retro, Absolute Vintage.  They like to sport a variety of mohawk haircuts which Vision is mostly responsible for.  Favoured labels include Boudicca, Robert Cary Williams, Swear Urban, All Saints thrown in with the Topshop, H&M staples and of course a whole lotta vintage!

Then you have the West London (Notting Hill, Holland Park, Chelsea, Kensington) fashion darlings.  You’ll find them quaffing tea at the Tea Palace or having lunch at the Bluebird on Kings Road.  If they haven’t spent enough on Sloane Street, then the chi-chi boutiques on Ledbury llike Matches will serve their purpose.  Coco Ribbon is also a favourite amongst these bouncy haired fashionistas.  Only Missoni, Chloe and Matthew Williamson will do and then a little Paul&Joe if they want to go ‘casual’.  Earnest Sewn jeans if they really want to rought it.

Most people would say I veer more to the East side but actually, I prefer to be non-postcode identifiable!

  1. I just have a question for you? What do you say to the people you photograph on the street? I love looking at the pics and want to start a street style category on my blog but I am wondering if people will be open to letting me take their picture. Maybe I should offer business cards.
    Anyway, love your blog.

  2. Hi Camille…bear in mind that these pics weren’t taken by myself! They’re from vogue.co.uk but yes I have started taking streestyle pics and hope to make it a regular feature. I just say ‘Hi there, I write a style blog and I’m doing a London streetstyle feature, would you mind having your picsture taken?’ If they don’t want their faces shown, I also offer to black out their faces. I was a little nervous asking people but once I got the hang of it, ppl were really quite nice about it. I did print out little leaflets with my blog address and banner just to hand out to people if they wanted to check out their pics!

  4. All of the following mentions are of tape(s) that have either been released or confirmed to exist.
The ex-husband of model Carolyn Murphy, Jake Schroeder allegedly tried to sell a tape featuring him and his ex-wife having sex during their honeymoon in 1999 while in Barbados.
In January 2007 Schroeder was arrested and charged with extortion for trying to sell the tape.
The video was leaked onto the internet in April 2007.

Hilton initially attempted to stop the distribution of the tape, but later agreed to its release. She now receives profits from the tape.
Unusually for a celebrity scandal, the notoriety surrounding the tape only served to increase Hilton’s fame.
This footage, along with additional full-color footage, was released commercially under the title ”
