My quest for unusual shoes is never-ending. Jimmy Choose, Manolos and even Louboutins are beautiful but somehow the perfection is too much and when I put them on, I feel like the shoes are wearing me. Which is why I prefer designers such as Buddhahood, Georgina Goodman and now to add to my shoe loves: Nicholas Kirkwood . He made his shoe debut in spring 2005 and has been garnering a lot of press attention ever since.
The thing I love about his shoes is the structure and the architectural details – the attention to shape. There is a somewhat dangerous edge to the heels, the waythe cone tapers so sharply. Kirkwood's take on architecture and his shoes:
It’s about silhouettes… It’s about the shape of the last and about the shape of the actual pattern that’s drawn onto the last, and color or material combinations. I don’t use anything that’s stuck onto the shoe. In certain ways it’s architectural, I suppose. Old-fashioned buildings like to be very decorative on the outside, but the basic shape is still a block, whereas modern buildings are more concerned about the actual shape of the building itself, rather than what’s put on as ornamentation. That’s sort of the way I try to think of my shoes in a sense, especially when it comes to the heels.'
Well, if we're having a Modernist season, let's all have a modernist shoe too! Even the fur bootie looks sleek without being kitsch.

Those conical heels are nuts. I love them.
Number 2 and number 3 are superb!
Great shoes susie… who sells them? can I find them online?
They`re insane 🙂 love them
I always knew that shoes are a piece of art but these….mmmmmmm…… 🙂
If you go on his website, you’ll find stockists. I don’t think he sells online yet but it’s only a matter of time. The major dept stores should carry his line. He’s also doing a line for Boudicca which is coming out soon.
I too LOVE the conical heel – something v. sexy about them.
i love the black booty. so sleek!
Nicolas Kirkwood. Finally a designer with fresh, new ideas for shoes. Sexy,… very sexy. Your designs ARE architecturally sound. We don’t have to choose form -or- function because your beautiful forms only enhance function. They work together. Finally, shoes that make your feet sing. Art for my feet is good for my soul (or sole). These are all beautiful. Go baby, go. B.
Hi all!
I can’t be bothered with anything these days, but shrug. I just don’t have anything to say recently.
