Moonlighting in Modette

I’m cursing myself for not being able to go to the launch party of Modette, a new Swedish fashion magazine, in Stockholm a few weeks ago. A) I’ve never been to Stockholm and I’ve been dying to go seeing as a countless number of people have been saying ‘Oh my god…you need to go… it’s original style a-plenty there!’ (To which I bewail ‘I KNOW!!!!’) and B) I also now happen to be contributing to Modette with a ‘Letters from London’ style article every month giving the low-down on London trends/fashion shennanigans/general randomness. My colloquial/slangy English gets translated into Swedish and though I’m not sure whether it will be put onto the website in English again, hopefully the Swedes will get something insightful out of it.

Modette is the type of fashion magazine that I’ve been hankering for someone to publish in the UK, very much in the style of Nylon. It’s very much about less mainstream, but still accessible fashion and not as haute as the serious fashion glossies. The first issue came out a couple of weeks ago with the second one due out on the 15th May. In the meantime, if you’re not in Sweden, you can go to the swish website.  Indeed if like me you can’t read Swedish, all the pretty pretty pictures will suffice.

It has the latest fashion news (and not just the generic Vogue/Style.com stuff either…), blogs that though I can’t read can get the gist of from the cute collages (especially love Eleonore’s), a very handy online shopping links page and also a forum where Swedish-speakers can participate in some fashion-speak.  For the first issue, I have also written a guide to vintage shopping in London, featuring 15 shops (it was hard to narrow it down to just 15!).  You can read it online in Swedish or download the word document which is in English.  I must say, it all looks rather impressive all laid out in an article so thanks to Modette for putting my photos and text in some presentable form.  Hope it’s useful in some way.
