Such is the depth, vastness and variety of European fashion, it does make me wince with guilt that my coverage of up and coming designers outside of Europe is woefully scant. American designers in particular is a bit of blank space here at Style Bubble. It doesn’t help when New York Fashion Week leaves me feeling satiated like I’ve had a decent meal at my local gastropub, but not amazed and stunned by say a meal at Le Gavroche. Of course, there’s a whole lot more beyond the walls of NYFW and someone I want to root and gun for is Frank Tropiano who is another IQONS find but recently grabbed my attention by shoving a stunning blouse in Flux magazine in my face.
His showcase is very selective and you’ll find little information on the web though his work has been widely used in editorials. Artful volume that isn’t excessive is key to his work. Restraint and a sparseness in colour palette help too. A lot of the new-gen NYFW designers use similar aesthetics but somehow leave me cold because there is still a clinincal commercialism about a lot of it. Tropiano’s work for me has a little bit more life to it and probably because the seeds for Tropiano’s future success have only just been sown, it’s a wee more exciting to see what he will produce and how he will present his work. Rooting and gunning for ya….!
A slightly cheesy Samsung promo using Tropiano’s work // The Flux magazine picture that made me fall in love with Tropiano’s work

I personally feel like American Fashion is dead! The designers come up with the same thing and I don’t really see any risks just emmaculate draping. In anycase There are tons of indie designers who need to be heard about. I think it’s time editors started repping them more. Cheers xoxo MIMi
P.S. Thanks for the link 😉

I think the works reflect a designer that is trying too a bit too hard to be “on the edge.” They came off as somewhat contrived and cartoonish. Hopefully the work will evolve with time?
