My complete disconnect with those two ‚Äòhot‚Äô fashion topics ‚Äì ‚Äòjeans‚Äô and ‚Äòbags‚Äô is quite evident on this blog and I guess I can‚Äôt do anything except shrug my shoulders and say ‚ÄòI dunno….‚Äô in a dumbass, babyish, ignoramus sort of way. However, it doesn‚Äôt mean that I can avoid the subjects altogether (actually scratch that, I haven‚Äôt worn a pair of jeans in an outfit….. in the past…. um….. year or so…. jeans avoidance is most definitely possible…). OBVIOUSLY, I‚Äôm forced to use bags in daily life and I do have a ton of stuff to carry so I guess, some sort of baggage reportage is required and so here is a post about those wretched bag things….
My latest acquisitions veer from impractical to questionable so even when treading on the unknown territory such as ‚Äòbags‚Äô, I can‚Äôt really play it safe and just plonk my credit card down for a Balenciaga leather what not in Selfridges….
This vintage square box purse, a find in Manchester (let‚Äôs hope that city yields more goodies next time I‚Äôm up there…) is fast becoming my bag of SS08. It is deceptively small as I can fit my camera, phone, concealer, Vaseline, cards and keys in it and with those bare essentials, I‚Äôm good to go. I like the satisfying clippy sound the clasp makes and the way the suede smells inside. Even with something that I‚Äôm quite unattached to like a bag, it‚Äôs those little experiences that endear me to that item…
Moving onto the questionable…. and I may get a lot of flack for this. *Takes a deep breath….* I knowingly bought a fake bag on eBay…. dear god… shoot me now and strike a stake through my heart! Let‚Äôs rewind though…. I bought it because it‚Äôs a suede multicoloured square patch bag with a yellow fringe handle. Miu Miu-irrelevant. Period. The seller couldn‚Äôt be sure whether it was a real Miu Miu but that tell-tale fake duster bag and tag told me it was fakey Mc Fake. Yet I loved the bag all the same and in the end, at $40, I couldn‚Äôt get a better price for a similar thing in a vintage store. I can‚Äôt really mark it out as belonging to a particular season (perhaps hardcore Miu Miu fans can tell me?) so the fakeness of it is even more irrelevant.
Yes shame on me for doing the counterfeit thing, especially when I was so perturbed by the fact that China makes…fake eggs(?!) in Channel 4‚Äôs The Fake Trade documentary but the multicoloured patches of suede…the happy happiness it will bring to an outfit… the fact that it doesn‚Äôt carry a neon sign above it that earmarks it as a ‚ÄòFAKE MIU MIU BAG‚Äô (unlike some of the…erm…Marc Jacobs ‚ÄòStums‚Äô I‚Äôve seen… )…. yes, a stake through my heart it shall be but I will be counting those squares multicoloured of suede and keep on stroking them….

I saw that bag on eBay too. Love both of those looks! Especially the first one.
Really love the little square bag! Great look with it as well. Not too sure about the second bag (I would keep feeling that the fringe was fraying on me). The whole hugely expensive (and usually hugely ugly) designer bag thing has also passed me by. Something quirky and unusual from a vintage store or Ebay for me please!
both of those are great, I would especially love that white one. I have a little bit of a color phobia so I would be kind of stressful on me to carry around the “fake miu miu” all day 😛
<3<3<3
I love reading your blog its become a daily must even though im more obsessed with bags & jeans so quite the opposite of you, its refreshing to read something different, still cant get away from my bag obsession though, loving Deal & Wire bags at the mo just bought two my poor bank balance…
oo the white bag is cute, i like bags that you can just throw money in when going to a club without taking a purse full of cards and receipts. i’m the same with jeans, though i may dust my high waisted ones this weekend and bring them out
I love the outfits you’ve paired with the bags! I’m guilty of carrying one bag with everything every day, even when I’m dressed up.
If only I had something like the little white one for going out! I need a little bag with a long shoulder strap; I don’t like holding onto bags when I’m out (so I don’t understand clutches at all).
That bag is craazy, and you paired them with an almost equally crazy pair of tights yet somehow it all seems to mesh and you pull it off and it looks infinitely cool, Super kudos to you! I don’t know how you do it.
regardless of whether or not it is fake, it is a stunning bag! i don’t think counterfit bags are so bad if they don’t have a logo emblazoned all over them. this is more for people who can recognize and appreciate a label yet can’t afford to shell out thousands for the bag.
xoxo
fashionista.com’s going to hate you..!
$40 is cheap even if it’s fake. I like it.
You look so effortless in the two photographs and… (not that it’s of any importance but…) You look very elongated and lean in them too 😛
p.s. lovin’ the tights.
Wow – loving the fake Miu Miu. I dont remember seeing anything like that in any collections though? I am looking for something quite similar but cant find anything quite right yet. When you get bored of it chuck it my way – he he!!
The first outfit, while at first glance not seeming very like you, is one of my favourite looks for you. It screams Eliza Doolitle at the races. In other words, awesome.
I’m actually not much of a bag person either (although I do like a crazy pair of jeans…)! I see a bunch that are “nice” but can never bring myself to buy them…
i’m crazy about your first look. very chic.
I love snap closures on bags and change purses, I remember thinking they were the epitome of cool as a kid. It’s been forever since I’ve seen one though.
im not that much of a bag person either, thankfully! otherwise god knows how much id spend….
i adore the little white one, i wish i could use little bags and clutches but i cant- i hoard around too much junk!
I love your sense of style, you rock.. badly!
Nice if you can link me, even though you can’t read my blog.
Kisses
I REALLY like the first look. That cap is such an fun element and the bag works well with the entire look.
Are jeans a “hot” topic? They seem so boring to me…I mean how different can they get?
Like another reader said as long as it doesn’t have a huge logo all over. Especially when it clearly looks fake then I think it’s ok. It’s about the look and having it all come together.
The other day I bought the Fendi Spy bag obviously a fake one and I saw it in two different places and one of them had a D&G logo on it. I abhor logo’s anyways but more so if I’m buying something for 20 dollars.
As for jeans as long as your butt looks good who cares about the label…
I love the white minaudiere! I’m an accessories designer(bags and shoes) myself and am going through a period of Art deco-ish minaudieres! This is certainly an area where most girls are not that used to. Girls prefer big bags which they can throw all their stuff in…but why not just bring a few essentials…it’s lighter and easier…and it’s chic!
As for the multi-colour “Miu Miu” bag… i just think that you should forget about the label inside and think of it as a bag you like… anyway, I don’t think Miu Miu has produce a big similar to this…
I think you bought a fake for the right reason, and by buying a “second-hand” fake on ebay, you didn’t even give the people who made it any money 🙂 You bought the bag cos you liked it and not because you’re trying to pass it off as the real thing, which is great!
And I must say, the lack of jeans in all your great outfits is really inspiring. I’m trying to kick the denim habit! 😛
I love the outfit, all your outfits actually! you really are a great stylist! I’d love to know where your stockings are from? There just perfect with the bag!
Oik… I’m glad the wee ¬£6 ‘minaudiere’ is getting a lot of love… just goes to show that a little CAN go a long way sometimes…
Addy: This word you have given me has added a new bit of vocab to my range…. see what I mean when I say that I have no clue about the bag-lingo?…. I can’t even pronounce it properly!
Giselle: I do like giving myself headaches from time to time…keeps the pressure on me…
Floraposte: The fringe is very firmly attached…. less fringey…more patchwork really…
Thom Wong: OMG….I was sort of going for that Eliza Doolittle at the races palette…. it’s a different facet of my style I think…
Lise: Have linked now…
The Clothes Horse: I do get frightened at how much people can go on about jeans…. well, just impressed by the amount of knowledge…. the different kind of denims, shapes, brands…it’s all foreign to me…
Mica: I’m just really lazy and hate trying on jeans….
For those that are into the tights, they’re actually leggings by the label KTZ… stole them from M.I.A. ho ho ho…
i constently laugh out loud while reading your hilarious way of writing!
and for me….i probably got several stakes in my heart…. 😉
lol i am coincidently lostening to andrea corr’s shame on you on itunes hahahah 😀
One of our writers wrote about this issue too on Haute Mimi:

To be honest Id rather carry a bag I found on my travels rather than a piece of mass produced leather with free advertising all over it. Also Jeans are def avoidable. Especially here in NY the whole black opaque tights with matching oxfords are a must and match everything. Cheers S xx Mimi
I love the small bag! All my best bags have come from charity shops over the years – great if you like structured bags like that small one, as I do.
Just the complete opposite of you! I am a hugely bag-crazy so both bags posted gets a big YES from me.
The ‘click-clock’ noise that a framed bag makes is one of the two things which make me go ‘oooooh’ – the other being gold hardware on a vintage bag!
The multicolored fakey really is great if you did not mention it as a fake – i trust that if the make of the bag is attractive enough it doesn’t matter if it is a fake or not. However my reservation will be that it doesn’t have a significantly huge monogram on it…
I like to lug a lot of stuff around…but big bags seem to give me very bad posture (excuses, excuses)…so i’m trying to use smaller bags now. I seem to have the bad habit of buying small bags cause they look so good but end up not using them as I can’t squeeze my “essentials” in…
that said, I still love your white purse!
yah, I’m not crazy into bags either. They’re just a necessity, really. I’ll carry a cute one around until it falls apart/changes colour/gets chewed by the cat, but that’s about it. I’m so bad with updating to a nicer bag that my boyfriend (who hates all things fashion-y), usually has to pick one out for me.
But man, I love SHOOZ.
That white bag is great! I’ve never seen that Miu Miu bag yours is supposed to be a copy of, so I can’t say anything about that. I think the fringe handles are cool, and I see why you were attracted to the bright colors.
I love these bags! especially the white one – it looks so classic, like you can use it for some many occassions
That colourful patched bag looks like it has spaghetti for straps. HAHA.
