Oodles of Tulle

Please do ignore the slight feeling of ‘Sadako’ from The Ring, in these images of Seiko Taki’s SS08 collection.  They just happened to prompt me to go on a search on Yoox for odd tulle pieces because for some reason, Yoox, with their seasons old stock consistently harbous many tulle confections from various Italian designers that I haven’t encountered in reality.  Enough of the browsing action though, because as soon as I get the all clear from the BBC weather forecast, I’m going to go on an all out binge to acheive a long tulle skirted, wedding cake effect on the bottom with something quite tight and minimal on top, finished with satin flats.

This is to be achived with a mix of mesh leggings, skirts by Missotten who seem to excel at the long skirted tulle creations, possibly with the addition of a dress by Haute or Gianluca Capannolo (no, I’m not firing out names in a knowing fashion… I haven’t a clue either but just go with it….) and the easy vintage tulle crinoline skirt options from Rokit/Beyond Retro and the like.  I demand wedding cake on the legs, and I’m not going to hold back on the number of tiers, ruffles, shades of peach/nude I go for.  This all probably sounds terrifying but I guess when wedding cake-stylee tulle skirts take over your brain, you would get a little posessed (see girl in the image above – totally entranced/hypnotised by Seiko Taki’s tulle/chiffon creations….)

  1. Sigh! Tulle, lovely tulle! Can’t wait to see your wedding confection.
When I sneak a peak at bubble at work, and see you’ve slammed us with 4-5 delicious posts like this in a row, it’s so frustrating that I can’t read them all now! But nice to know they’re there waiting…

  2. This reminds me of a scene in Across the Universe when one of the characters wears a skirt that is opaque from the waist to above the knee, and then a tulle skirt that is nude the rest of the length down. I think the tulle had alternating thin bands of white as well, which made it extra delicious-looking.
The movie was fabulous, but I couldn’t help but think, “Man, where can I get my hands on that skirt!”

  3. Tulle is really pretty and fits in with some of the romantic themes around at the moment. I’ve personally always loved it – reminds me of ballerinas.

  4. Reminds me of a Betsey Johnson skirt I had in day-glo pink back in the day. I wore it with leggings under, of course.

  5. I love tulle but don’t know if I would wear them on a daily basis though. But, I am happy to learn that J Crew offers tulle for kids. I will run out to buy darling niece one. She will be tickle pink.

  6. “I demand wedding cake on the legs” That made me laugh at loud. My fellow blogger and I always call them cakes, though in my town, people would ask me if I was celebrating my quincenera.

  7. what is it about tulle that just calls to a girl’s heart…
i think its inherent crinkli-stiff/soft-balletness quality does it for me

  8. i love tulle, like the ones marc jacobs showed this season both at his and LV.

  9. tulle! One thing in the world I really love lol 😛
I once bought like four yards of it to make many wonderful tulle things, but it unded sitting in my closed for a couple years before I gave it to my mom :-/

  10. that transparent rose-patterned number is heavenly. I would SO wear that – maybe over shorts and with a hooded t-shirt. Yum.

  11. I love those jcrew tulle skirts from the commenter!!!! They’re so effervescent? Maybe? Wrong adjective probably, but I’m exhausted and they’re lovely nevertheless.

  13. As much as I love these sweet colourful tulle skirts, I don’t know if I could get away with them with a 3 year old in tow. Perhaps I could go with one of the more simple single layer, over dress numbers. I just REALLY want to get some into my daily wear. Gorgeous pictures Susie, thanks!

  14. The first dress is a stunner
It’s a shame you can’t see the front of it properly in those pictures!

  15. I always loved the excess and poof associated with tulle. I always wanted to get my hands on a tulle skirt…but they are $50 USD at the thrift store near me where they are sold. The thrift store!

  16. You make me miss my crinolines and tulle! I have a collection of about 10 in my storage in Alberta (Canada). I can’t wait to go out there and pick em up!
