Snow Ninja

snown2.jpg

Snown2 As we speak, the snow has melted and the skies are once again blue but it doesn’t mean that the snow ninja didn’t have to come out in force because Urban Nomads are quite feeble and a little bit of snowfall can be quite frightening.  So a Snow Ninja armour collective came out to play, and hopefully it will be the last time of 2008…

We have the mighty trio of the wooly hat, the power of two scarves (vintage and Nom D) knotted together and some leather fur trimmed gloves (again, vintage). Not only a jumper but a cardigan as well, a grey tulle tiered top that adds another layer for the final piece of armour to go over, in the shape of a Preen halterneck top with a handy pleated breastplate.  The Clare Tough knitted skirt is suitably chunky and though you can’t see, it has a gold chain waistband for extra protection and though the black lame leggings have lost its sheen a bit, they’re still serving well.  For extra binding, a grey zip trim is around the waist.  Finally a ninja should never be without some shiny black patent boots.

Of course, after the snow ninja’s work is done (work being having some hot and sour noodles in Chinatown and picking up some fash mags….) and she returns home to find that it is sunny again and the green is showing through, a slick of red lippie reminds her that the armour can be done away with to make room for some colour.

  1. Just WOW! You look truly beautiful, the lipstick is fantastic on you, your hair looks like perfection. If just everyone would battle snow in this way.

  2. you look really nice is red lipstick! the snow looks beutiful its been snowing all day here too! i was wondering if you could tell me any good shops you know of in london as i am going up there for two days (weds & thurs) but i do not really know of any interesting shopping spots apart from on oxford street? thanks alot 🙂

  3. Lisa: I have a list stored on my work pc…will email ya tomorrow….
Thanks…the red lippie comes out rarely but that makes it a bit more spesh for me as I’m not a regular lippie wearer…

  4. Wonderful. Absolutely love your details, especially that flash of silver…can’t help sensing a (subtler) warrior-girl connection to the Sart’s “Heavy Metal” Mar 31 post – you’re like personifications of winter and spring!

  5. I love the look! I wish I could combat the winter blahs away with an outfit like that, but I don’t understand how anyone can stand the cold in a jumper and cardigan. I need a big, thick winter coat.

  6. I love how the red lipstick pops out of all the grey! The look is very pretty and fresh. Good choice! I’ve always been afraid of wearing lipstick.
How do you layer your clothes in the winder to keep warm? I think if I wore that I’d need a jacket on top too.

  7. Thermal vest underneath helps as does the fact that in London, even thought it snowed, the temp was about 5-9 degrees celcius…that’s not that bad….

  8. LUV the red lippy on you (and the contrast with different shades of grey)! Oh Susie, could I be cheeky and also ask for a copy of the list of stores in London? I’d be very grateful. Thanks.

  9. This post just reminded me that i need more grey and black clothes…You look amazing!!!
If possible could you please email me a list of stores in London aswell please!!! Student loans coming 2mo… shopping spree needed….
    Thanks x

  10. ooo so snuggly! tomorrow i will be hunting through my wardrobe for greys and red lippy- what a fab combination!

  11. That is the cutest urban snow outfit I have ever seen. I love checking out your blog every month or so and gorging on fashion. My favorite posts are when you put together outfits and take pictures of yourself and we get to see your eclectic stylemind at work. I don’t ever see anyone dressed like you and it is perfect and refreshing. Thanks!

  12. Wow I love how you use the zipper thing as a belt!!
But it does remind me… don’t wear it too much like an obi, because it is acknowledged in Japan that prostitutes tie their obi in front 🙁

  13. Wow, you look so stylish, even when braving the snow!
    And you’re wearing a skirt!
There’s no way I would look that good when it’s snowing – I’d just wear layers and layers and look like a blob. You look great 🙂

  14. I didn’t think it snowed in England. I just thought it rained–not to sound ignorant or anything. I’ve been there quite a lot and I have family there. But you look prepared for the wintery? weather!

  15. i loveee this outfit. every layer and gradient of grey is perfect.
    you look so pretty 🙂

  16. I am filled with amazement that you can manage to make a snow ensemble look so snug and comfy.
and it is of course a plus to see you out and about as opposed to your apartment, really brings more perspective! (:
red lips is a great plus and i think you will look purely fab with a perfectly made up face!

  17. Haha, you crack me up. I’ve been waiting for snow all winter and it comes at spring while I’m away! Humph..

  18. Lucy-Jane: Yup…. indeed
    Hurlax: Ho ho ho….yup, that’s me… a hussy!
Gwen & Sophia: Will email ya both.
Thanks for the lovely comments. The ninja gear appreciates them.
Re comments about successful layering: The point is, you’re never gonna look super svelte if you put a ton of stuff but for me, that’s not an issue. I don’t MIND looking like a blob.

  19. you know people always say don’t wear the same colour throughout? your outfit proves that it can be nice!! looking great 🙂

  20. greatt post <3
i can't believe you guys had snow, back in MD, US its just rainy :/

  21. i hate the way u pose for pictures.
you look all scrunched up and your posture is SO bad. has it never occured to you that the way u present urself and hold your body plays just as much a large part as fashion itself???
u make me sick. yuck. you freaky fat eskimo. oh and your calves ARE HUGE.

  22. Yes, I’m a fat eskimo with fat calves who loves munching on hot and sour noodles…. wow…. I’m honoured that my posture plays a part as large as ‘FASHION ITSELF’? I don’t even think that makes sense…

  23. Ignore the ranting randomer; that is a great look! When it is cold I can’t help but huddle in the warmest coat I can find so I really admire the way that you keep your style no matter the weather.
By the way could I possibly hop on the bandwagon for the list of London shops (especially vintage!) whenever you get the chance.

  24. Oh my gosh, can I be a freaky fat eskimo then? I think I may have found a name for my knitting club…
Honestly though Susie, I don’t know how you don’t freeze… I wear 2 vests as standard at the moment and my joints are STILL seizing up from the cold.

  25. Loved the lipstick best!
If your calves are huge, I must be a mammoth 😀

  26. ok i feel bad about commenting on your calves. that was way out of line cos you dont have big calves.
    your just normal.

  27. Oooo, red lipstick and eyeliner and do i detect a little curl in your hair? i know you’ve said before that you’re not a make-up girl but you look great with it on! 🙂
and wow, that negative comment above, how do you take that abuse. sheesh, why are people so mean?

  28. I really like how you combine gray colors with chequer scarf, i looks really brave! 🙂
