I think we have established that I dig skirts but we haven’t gone to the lengths of pricy skirts. Now I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t often go pass the ¬£50 mark to cover just the bottom half of my body which is why once again, I find myself faced with the conundrum of Reiss. Their set of skirts for SS08 are once again loverly-loverly…all irregular ruffles/tiers and curvy/tri-directional pleats in juicy pink and yellow and clean taupe/white. It would really make a lot more sense if I was a Canary Wharf high-flyer who talks of mergers and um… that sort of stuff… I could walk into Reiss and take a bunch of the clothes and plonk it down at the till without so much as looking at the pricetags. The dark wood interiors, chrome and tasteful la-la-la music suggests that I should be a regular diner at Hakkasan (more dark wood…) except that I’m not…
So as wonderful as they are, Reiss will eternally make me feel like I should be exchanging business cards with fellow shoppers and overhearing tidbits about whether people will be getting their annual City fat bonuses…. and as I embark on new career territory in about a month’s time, plonking down the credit card for some quickie buys at Reiss seem even further away from the agenda…
The tragedy is that these skirts are probably going to be completely wasted on the City types if their office dress codes are anything like what I’ve known them to be…can’t imagine a lawyer coming to work in all that ruching, really (though I wish I could).
I never feel like I can really stretch to Reiss either.
They are lovely though, especially the pink. It reminds me of the Giles for New Look dress a bit, although I’ve not yet had the chance to see said dress in real life.
That first taupe one comes in bright yellow too – very nice. I have been eying it up in our branch for some time, but I too just can’t bring myself to give Reiss my money.
Reiss is actually quite pricey in HK when I last visited- are they as $ in the UK?
I love the top 2 skirts, there’s just something really great about neutrals, they go really well with anything, all year round!
These are so yummy. I love the colors and the simple shapes. Especially the pink & taupe look very flattering and go with anything. I do such a standard uniform for work, but I could easily see taking off a blazer and adding one of these over the tights and being instantly ready to go somewhere else. Very fun, carefree.
i think what i love about your blog that you’ve made me, a COMPLETE fashion scaredy-cat going from looking at things that make me go “oo-er, why?!” to going “hmmm…i can see that’s pretty cool”, to going “WOW. that’s really awesome, I can totally see Susie Bubble wearing this!
I love you Susie!!!
I hate wanting something so bad, but not even daring to buy it knowing you may have to file for bankruptcy after the purchase. I do love the first skirt though, and good luck with whatever your new job will be in a month!
I love love love the first one./
I’ve had my eye on all four since I saw them at the SS preview! Love them. I also want the bright blue silk dress. BUT – Reiss is even more expensive in the US than it is in London. Madness. Instead of being pitched a notch above Sharon Millen (for people who want designer-y looking (read copies) clothes without the price tag, here it is pitched as a cutting edge retail brand. Maybe I’ll pick something up at Duty Free instead… (there’s a Reiss at Heathrow Terminal 3) LLG xx
I feel your pain Susie – I’ve had to train myself not to notice the Reiss in Angel. Duty free sounds like good thinking liberty, can we give you a list?!
What wonderful skirts! The pink is by far my favorite, and reminds me of cotton candy. I will start my search momentarily for a more affordable version 🙂
Woo, I have an interview at Reiss tomorrow!
Being said City girl I love Reiss for their day to evening pieces. I have such a lovely purple skirt with some gauzy flowers over the button front that looks so nice. Some people may find Reiss boring work wear but there are plenty or well structured, cute pieces which may me think of a cheaper Paule Ka.
hmm… i’ve only been to reiss once… it was alright… these skirts are nice.
so what’s this career change?? does it have to do with the meeting you had a while back?
yum. that yellow one should be on my body right. this. second.
Those skirts are very cute but I have always found with Reiss that stuff that looks great in the pictures or on the teeny-tiny mannequins is not so great on in a larger size (ie my size). Oh and their prices are PAINful all of the above combined with the rudeness of the staff in the Dublin store are the reasons I have never managed to purchase there
I love the skirts. They are very unique and very cute!!!
What are the prices?
i’m loving the chiffon layers on the ‘linium’ (pink) skirt.. it’s nice in the stone colour too.. o how i also wish i could just splash out ¬£120 on a (short) skirt! x
I’d go off the rails for these. They’re incredible.
i don’t know the prices of reiss, but look at that first skirt! so yummy
I love Reiss, but looking at even their sales items makes me feel dirty.
sigh, those are beautiful skirts and im sure they would look great on you. but at least you can comfort yourself that you can actually afford to buy a 50 pound skirt and still consider yourself a ‘cheapskate’. lucky lucky girl
The first one is my pick! It’s definitely goin’ to spice up any basic outfit into the ‘fab’ haha.
I live in NY and was wondering if there was anywhere online where I could purchase Reiss clothing. Their website says that they only do shipping within the UK an Ireland. 🙁
Reiss clothes look good but they quickly fall apart. The service is mediocre, and when things do fall apart they refuse to take them back. Keep your money, don’t waste it on good looking but poor quality reiss clothes!
I really like Reiss skirts at the mo!I just bought this reiss dress called Scarlet! I love how they name every single clothing item
