It will probably dismay a lot of people to know that my love for the frivolous isn’t really extended to bags. Extravagant clothes, yes. Ridiculous shoes, yes. Overly-adorned bags? No. It’s not a matter of cost. I have no objections against expensive handbags. However, it’s simplicity I’m after. With simplicity, also comes oversized. My love for the non-descript functional big black leather sack is evident in the lack of bags in the outfits which I post. It’s like the boring daggy side of me instilled into whatever bag I’m carrying. It’s also my way of restoring some balance into my outfits. I could have on a grey tulle tutu and a silver headdress but the functional, nondescript bag weights it down and restores some sense of normality.
Some might interpret that as a lack of conviction and an unwillingness to go all the way….. ah well….so be it. My airy fairy ways just aren’t extended to the bag.
My current label of choice to pin down for my next nondescript sack is Chris & Tibor. Man bags they may be but they all tick my boxes for oversized and unidentifiable…. bags that can go incognito are the sort I favour and their AW08-9 ‘Barbican – Future Past’ exhibition certainly fulfills that criteria. Black, chocolate and silver leathers with different textures are reflections of Barbican in London, an area of odd and experimental cityscape. For Tranoi Homme AW08-9 in Paris in January, Chris & Tibor were also chosen to mount an installation based on their collection and partnered up with Stefi Orazi to do so at the Palais de la Bourse.
Of course, Chris & Tibor’s collection also makes perfect boyf pressies…. yup, matching Chris & Tibor bags for moi et boyf isn’t fazing me….because any bag which can weight down my outfits is one worth having….

Nice stuff.
i’m all down for the functional bag with a bit of style. god–lugging my stupid bag throughout venice was a mess and then trying to wander art basel with my way too heavy tote bag was a nightmare and i almost knocked over cecilia dean from visionaire magazine with my tote bag…lord…glad to be back in the states again.
i’ve seen their work before and love it more each time. but can i say that i love those boots. THOSE AMAZING BOOTS!
and can i air a bit of grievance…why is it that girls can sport a boy’s bag but i walk down the street with my little marni bag and people do a double take…unfair i say, unfair!
love,
danny

The last grey bag is lovely, thanks for the tip of.
I’m thinking your functional bag is an excellent choice particularly as you can wear the clothes so well.
I always think something has to give and given you can get such gorg functional numebrs as above, keep it that way.

I like a lot of those bags: I’m a very simple leather bag person.
I especially like the one with the plaited front, although the shot makes it look a bit like a fanny pack: hopefully it isn’t.
The one thing I don’t like in the shots: the model…he looks like Agyness Deyn on a double-dose of cortasone. He doesn’t turn me off the bags though: they’re lovely!
I’ll take the model, and his boots! (I don’t need any more bags, some fat woman will just end up sitting on them)
I want that grey duffle. I have an abiding love for them. And that double pocketed briefcase.
really liking the bags
i tend to buy very (what i believe to be) normal looking but functional bags. although what i really need are bags that are a bit more eye-catching than that. call it the lazy girl’s way of upping her outfit, but my functional bags unfortunately don’t do much for the daily outfits. and yet, i’m still drawn to these bags like that grey bowling bag with brown straps!
Love the bags, want them all plus the boy! He does look like Agyness Deyn in male version. I saw C&T’s campaign in Wound magazine. He even pose like Agyness Deyn, but with dark hair.
