Blicky Blacky Black

When the H&M AW08-9 lookbooks came out, they caused a bit of a blogging frenzy, and the ‘I want this and that’ comments flooded in.  Without an e-commerce site (When will it happen?  Someone should make it happen…) though, I find it difficult to track lush H&M stuff hitting stores so I end up passing by whatever bit of wickedness is happening there.  Topshop is a different story and with the New York store launching this autumn, it will be even more imperative that things get on the site in a more timely fashion.

Their press day yielded some blurry pictures from myself so their lookbooks give a much clearer picture.  I’m not really planning for my AW08-9 to be an aggressive, drenched-in-black season but it seems the looks, with the exception of a nude furry and chiffony affair (left), I’m attracted to are of that ilk.  Corset tops, bodies, short and tight with an addition of upper body volume and of course some sheeny shiny lace-ups boots.  Even the mixed denim looks are working for me…

There’s a sort of scrubbed-down slickness that I like about the looks… supposedly we are meant to be growing up a bit for next season and getting ladylike and a bit sombre but I’m thinking the party child in me will remain for a bit yet especially if invest in the zippy short dresses and leather fringed skirt.

  1. I prefer the styling of these to their namby pamby advertising images. I know they have to be commercial but I think TS could afford to be a bit more adventurous, esp when they use shit hot stylists for their campaigns…it seems like such a waste otherwise!

  2. for some reason this doesn’t feel super forward, like the whole docs and heels with socks, with corset busts and ripped jeans and tights reminds me of some swedish blogs like milk. it’s very ‘topshop’ though and i like how they always use pale models which look great with the black fabric textures

  3. Eee, wow! Susie, do you have any more pictures or a link so I can see more? I loved your post on their press day, and caved in to the pom pom shoes! And I need that sequin playsuit so so badly, yum.

  4. The lace up boots are killer! Not sure how I feel about my corset cups running over. Can’t wait for the NY arrival!

  5. I really like it. You can see a lot of styling references to the past season but I think it’s very “New York” which makes sense. Love a lot of the looks actually and the middle piece with the satin lapels is a direct ripoff of the Row. They actually copy a lot of their pieces

  6. This just makes me sad as I’m sure Indiana will never get a Topshop. Hell, our H&M’s just stock basics. Grr.

  7. I love the PVC trench
and that woman really was terrible, the worst thing she said was ‘they have the big necks too’

  8. Loving it all especially the shiney mac! I’ve noticed that I always see great things in Topshop images and they never seem to end up in my local store or online. Maybe they all go to the London store.

  9. I think it’s all pretty damn awesome. A bit of a 90s influence there and I’m loving the short furry coats.
I suppose h&m don’t have e-commerce coz they just have so much stuff! Its no excuse though!

  10. I really like the ripped jeans and and those lace up heels, hopefully some of this stuff will end up on the website as my local store is crapola..

  11. I think H&M need to open an online store – so much good stuff happening with their fashion!

  12. we actually have an H&M online shop where I live, but they never sell the good (trendline) clothes on there, just the boring stuff.
I do hope some of these things will be available on the Topshop website though, as I’ve become completely addicted since they started shipping here.

  13. fringes, leather, nude and chiffon are exactly what I need AND want in my wardrobe right now.
It’d be hard to pull of that furry pink jacket though.
…Oohh . I issue you a challenge to wear that fluffy coat and not look like a hooligan. You can do it..

  14. This is Topshop? Oh my gosh, I’m excited!
With all this talk of AW08, I thought I couldn’t possibly be interested in my winter wardrobe just yet, but actually, I think it’s happening. I’m thinking the contrast of simple chiffons; girly dusty pink petticoats worn out under big chunky knits and layers of heaviness.
    sighh.

  15. The shiny coat and the black furry thing! They are just what I need to augment my Victorian Mourning wardrobe (for my Golden Years, starting any day now!)
I need them! Need, not want!

  16. wow 😀 this just takes me back to my goth/grunge days!
i love the lace up boots with those jeans, im definately going to be keeping an eye for this stuff!

  17. I like it a lot, although the person who said it was very like phi is definitely right… also clearly still very influenced by christopher kane (that zip dress especially)… but I would completely wear any and all of this, particularly the knitwear.

  18. Wow. Did anyone see the horrible photoshopping on the girls legs on bottom and middle left? you would think someone would have caught that before they released it.

  19. Hey…Chloe…sorry, that was my photoshopping bad…. my skills are wayward to say the least… not Topshop’s fault at all….
