>>Well, I expected the knock off to come from somewhere considering the amount of attention laden upon THAT Alexander Wang sheer piping dress and the DIYs that ensued involving the American Apparel plain mesh version. I just didn't think Topshop would pick up on it and turn out a version (which isn't online for some reason… **EDIT** It's suddenly turned up on the site even though it wasn't two hours ago…hmmm…) of their own albeit with short sleeves. This is more like a layering basic for me than a stunner of a dress because I'm still actually waiting out for the KTZ satin dress with piped mesh cut-outs that I think will hopefully be the champions of the black mesh race. The Melton Mowbray of pork pies if you will. Actually, scrap that… too many pork pies and I will have to rule the KTZ out… and this Topshop stand in for that matter…
The Stand In
I love it!

Susie, the dress is online! I’m not sure about the UK site, but it’s on the US one. The sizes are selling out pretty quickly too.
As an alternative to the piping on mesh, I did my own DIY with just fabric cut outs sewn under the dress. Total cost was less than 70CDN dollars…not too bad….

You’re so cute and you can walk with ANYTHING and look BRILIANT in it! I really like that dress you’re wearing too.
By the way, I’ve linked to your blog. Hope you don’t mind that. I haven’t written anything bad about you at ALL! (how can I when you’re so cute. seriously)
Love from Camilla
Again, I love your shoes. What are those?
love that the Aztec detail isn’t too in-your-face!
You look gorgeous, SB! That dress is tres Christopher Kane!
xoxox,

Love how you wear it! I agree, it’s more of a layering piece.
This dress has been floating around on ebay for over $300. Obviously somebody saw it in the NY store and decided to make a profit on ebay. I love the original Alexander Wang but didn’t want to spend that much on a dress that you can basically only wear layered. So resisted and waited eagerly for it to arrive in the online store (my only chance to get Topshop items) and it just got in. So happy. Had to order it right away.

I will look out for that at work, I haven’t seen it yet… we get our 60% uniform discount in a couple of weeks so hopefully the two will coincide nicely!
It went on site on Thurs! I’m not sure how I feel about it, I was excited at first but the more I look at it, the more it looks like what it is, a cheaper version of something really really gd!
OOOOO, that dress is excellent! I feel inspired to sew now!!
very cute susie but I think you should show more skin in it!
I like this version a lot more than the original! I wasn’t really crazy about the original but this one looks amazing, and I love the bike shorts! I still need to figure out how to wear mine . . .
i just ordered this and thought i would wear my aa sheer dress under it.. i’m excited to see it in reality.
http://fashionhedonism.blogspot.com
it looks great from the front, but i don’t think i could handle the see through back… it looks a bit tight for layering except with leggings. on me that could go baaaadly wrong ;-D xxxc
Lauren: You don’t want to see MY skin I can assure you….
Nat: I wouldn’t even say it’s a touch comparable to the original version…. but it is what it is….a nominal stand in whilst I await the KTZ dress which I personally think trumps the Wang…. not that the KTZ dress is a homage to Wang or anything…. they just all have similar elements….
Apologies for the link bungle…. for some reason I couldn’t find it when I was on Topshop beforehand….
Thats just wonderful!
I think its niceeeeeeee
I love topshop too muh lately!!!
Oh how I love that dress. I really wish I could get my hands on it.

Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more obvious designer copy from Topshop. Comparing it next to the Alexander Wang version makes it look pretty poor in quality though.
Ohh I like the pattern.
You look wonderful in that, of course.
loveeee it so much
you look amazing! love the dress!

Love this dress! Simply brilliant 🙂
I like the dress, but I agree with you about the layering. I love the shoes! Also Topshop?
I love your dress<3<3<3...And those shorts under the dress reminds me so much of the Beverly Hills 90210 style, back in the 90's..
http://myillustratedfashiondiary.blogspot.com
i have that ktz satin dress. it looks tight but when you wear it its very stretchy and soft and easy to move in…so no need to give up the pork pies
wasn’t this dress actually made in the 90s? i was it not sheer then?
hmmm… that was supposed to be…
“or was it not sheer then?”
you are so clever! Adore your fashion sense and styling talent! You’re blog.is.amazing. x
hey it would have been a lot easier if we had loads of money and bought THE AW dress, but hey, i also bought the topshop one and i think there are ways around it…i was considering getting some cording done on the back side so it can be less topshop and more AW….but i do like your creative ways!! keep it up!
😀

i’m afraid i do love the original more. i know you’re wearing a layer underneath but what i love about wang’s design is the sharp contrast of the thick piping against the super sheer.
although i prefer that dress unlayered i have to repeat myself: bodycon dresses were made for you, so incredibly flattering. but again, you do creative-quirky like no-one else’s business.
