Back to the Beach for Cagin’

I'm slowly confirming my fast-track OAP status by escaping to the quieter life as often as I can.  I'm feeling more and more like Taeko in Isao Takahata's Only Yesterday, except instead of er…harvesting safflowers, I'm off milling around Marks & Spencer with Steve's dear grandma (who we call min min…) touching up calf length skirts and feeling whether avocados are ripe or not.  Anyway, like I said when I received Angie of I Heart Norwegian Wood 's wonderful package of leathery caginess, I was determined for both the belt and skirt to come with me to Westgate on Sea even if I wasn't going to be the best-equipped to outfit the skirt well.

Thankfully, flimsy pieces like this very old Jonathan Saunders stripy slip skirt and a basic grey sweatshirt jumper would do the dusky pink leather cage skirt and taupe belt 50% justice which is good enough for me…

Oh yes, and err…I was accessorized/terrorized by gusty winds…

…which is why the Y-3 super floopy hat came into tame the hair…

Another flimsy pairing is this cheapie tiered dress from Hong Kong that comes out every summer…

  1. I loooooove your Margate photos. I really love the pink cage and I don’t know which outfit I prefer! These are so cheerful…you were lucky to have good weather this weekend! It’s been raining non stop in the midlands!

  2. The colours in these photos are just blowing me away! Give Steve a big pat on the back for these photos, they’re gorgeous!
Definitely more than 50% justic 😉

  3. Pink cage + Jonathan Saunders >100% justice, easily! Hat stripes + skirt stripes takes it even further 🙂

  4. ooo i remember the pink dress from very early style bubble days! the stripes work so well with the stripes of the cage, i think the pink version has sold me into looking at cage skirts quite seriously!! also loving these beachy shots

  5. another norwegian wood beauty!
but more than that, how is it you’re able to wear heels on sand and not sink in??!
i’m definitely bringing my mercibeaucoup, heels to the beach the next time i go. at least i can be a hip-hoppin ninja.

  6. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS!!!
It looks so good. You have the perfect pairings for that skirt cage.

  7. i adore your cheapie dress. i’m going to hk at the end of this year and i’m looking forward to the shopping. you’re always mentioning how much you love it.

  8. LOVE these photos Susie.
Your cage skirt puts my hand-hacked DIY version to serious shame!
Bit of a shock to see the bare legs and arms…we’ve had torrential rain for a week here in Wales and it’s been back to wearing two woolly jumpers 🙁

  9. I have to admit to complaining about the wind and the sand whilst taking these pictures but they came out surprisingly well. Westgate-on-sea will soon be the editorial hot spot!

  10. God.
I normally love your outfits, but I’m just dying to combime the cage skirt myself. I so know I’d do it so much better :O

  11. Gilda: The sand for some reason was rock solid…. properly hard… I have no idea why though…!
Nina: Shoes are very very old Faith
Yara: Like I said, 50% JUSTICE! Why don’t you get one and go mad!

  12. I’m stuck on the shoes. I got a pair of silver jazz flats last year and ever since want more lace up bastardizations.

  13. I really enjoyed this post. The “cage” over dress is wonderful! I especially love the last outfit.
