BLESS just about sums up the enigmatic yet practical general nature of German fashion design. I’ve been a fan since I saw their bedsheets printed with a sleeping couple on them and was even more of a confirmed fan when I saw their retrospective exhibition at Rotterdam last year. For the Hint Mag shop, they have especially re-issued their stitched t-shirts bearing the resemblances to the designers Desire Heiss and Ines Kaag who are notoriously press shy. It’s also a more interesting take on wearing designer names/logos by wearing the designer’s face instead.
However, as I look closer at the t-shirts, the faces for me are bearing more of a resemblance to the couple in the Faubourg St-Denis clip played by Natalie Portman and Melchior Beslon (one of the better portions of the film) in the film Paris, je t’aime, directed by Tom Tykwer. It could just be the strange way my mind works, but the lines of the stitched faces echo the way the couple in this film have to see beyond the surface and really come together, seeing each other’s beauty and flaws in the course of the relationship. Odd connection over. This might have just been an excuse to point out how much I love that Tom Tykwer portion from PJT.

Very nice post. I’ve been a fan of Desire and Ines since my boyfriend took a course they held at my school. And well, Tom Tykwer happens to be one of my favourite directors (of course I loved his “paris je t’aime” part!). Do you know all his other movies? They are pretty alike…
I loved, loved Paris, Je t’aime. The different segments will always pop into my head every now and then, and I always realise that I had forgotten that paricular one.
Hmmm.
The Coen Brothers one is hilarious.
don’t mean to expose my ignorance, but I’ve never heard of that movie. however, that shirt really does look like natalie portman.
Tsk, I STILL haven’t seen that film. Must try harder…
ahhh ty ty ty, thnx to you i’ve heard of this great movie, thaank you again!
That was my favourite part of Paris, Je T’aime.
ahhh paris je’taime 🙂
those are super cute shirts!
now that you say it! what a coincidence, i watched the movie yesterday and everything’s still fresh in my mind! oh, now i really want those t-shirts for me and my bf! oh, i liked the one with the red trench coat beast, i think it was the second one, where the guy leaves his young mistress to be with his wife in her last weeks of life.
