The tingly uplift of LFW

These pictures shot for the London Fashion Week issue of Fashion156 perfectly sum up my anticipation for London Fashion Week.  The ‘uplift’ in the balloons.  Not sure if that was an intended visual metaphor there in tune with my own excitement and hope for the collections next week. The crisp vividness of each outfit standing out in the darkened surroundings.

Emilio de la Morena, Jonathan Saunders, Rodnik, Peter Jensen….  (from top to bottom)

I have been struggling to figure out whether my love for London Fashion Week is down to the fact that I live in London and that people consider it a bit of a ‘dud’ amongst the four fashion weeks so I defend it as much as possible or whether the quality/variety of the designers actually exist.  I would say it’s a combination of all of that but mostly, it is because London as a platform for emerging labels is unequalled and for someone who is always ravenous for the ‘new’, it’s an absolute pleasure.  It is still a relatively small schedule when compared to New York where I find it hard to navigate through everything and where the designers that I am interested in seeing get such little media coverage so it does make it easier for those new names to stand out and stick in my head.  My own show attendance will be sketchy as stupidly, I’ve frittered away my holidays (yes, I do have to take out time from my day job to cover shows) so along with you, it will be a matter of site clicking for those images to pop up whilst I enjoy some Matcha tea and pineapple biscuits (the mothership bought a ton of snacks from Taipei).

I’ve also been on a recent menswear rampage, trying to absorb as much information as possible about the labels out there because in several email requests, I have discovered that the number male readers of this blog is on the up (compared with the initial 5% last time I did a survey…) so I will try my best to cover more menswear even if I fail miserably and have the stylish guys out there saying ‘How wrong you are!’.  The same excitement and ‘uplift’ for menswear designers can be seen here

I now feel like being in a roomful of balloons.  Slow Fridays in the office suck…. roll on LFW….!

  1. I will no doubt cry when LFW comes round since I have had to turn down an invite to see someone I love and adore 🙁
    Oh well, maybe next year.

  2. I love LFW! No London for me this year thanks to the weak US dollar. *snif* Wish I could be there, if for no other reason, to see Arcangel’s SS08 collection in person.

  3. Pleased you liked the shoot! Yes the rising stars of fashion week are depicted by the balloons! It took so much time as the wind was blowing the balloons flat to the floor.
Very excited about the shows this season, just have really high hopes…..
So enjoy the shows you do get time to go to and
thank you for all the support.
    guy x

  4. didnt you know london is the city of the 21st century? ha ha, i don’t know about that… but british art and fashion has had a revival in the last 10 years or so… it’s amazing whats going on there… no doubt about it.
    i’m excited too!
    : )

  5. I agree with jennine – I think LFW is having a revival but a bit more recently than the last 10 years. It’s really become the “cool” display of younger, hipper design talent as opposed to the safer US styles. It’s great that more international designers are choosing to show in London (even if it is to launch a new store opening).

  6. This is offtopic but i love that you refer your mom as the mothership. (at least that’s who I’m assuming your referencing!)

  7. well LFW is great!you are more of a fashion insider than me so can you tell me what i need to do to go to athens fashion week?do I need invite?it’s quite a small fashion week but i have to watch yorgos eleftheriades’ and erotokritos’ shows…
