I don’t usually multi-post on the same subject but I felt my blurry You Tube video really does not do Sandra Backlunds’ new collection justice so these stunning images shot by Ola Bergengren just had to be shared. By dissecting the shape of the humble clothes peg and fanning them out into wooden clockwork cog shapes (or antique ivory fans..in my mind…), and then transplanting the shapes into wool. Beige. Clothes Pegs. Wool. A combination that would go horribly wrong in a lot of people’s hands but comes together in a cohesive, controlled and once again, astonishingly precise way under Backlund’s crafty fingers (she was even knitting on the plane on her way over to Miami… who can blame her though when Mr Bean was the only film option available on board…).
I’m most definitely winging my way over to Stockholm in Jan/Feb (thanks to Sandra who has tipped me off about flying Sterling as opposed to bloody Ryanair!) for Sandra’s show… who knows what mundane object she will transform next?

wow, these are sure interesting creations… and great that you¬¥re going to sweden! a friend of mine was in stockholm once and when she came back she was all like “Wow! these swedish girls are so totally STYLISH! I felt like a homeless person next to them” (she¬¥s more the casual, sporty type, but i¬¥m sure you can outdress anyone.)
best wishes,
cate
The platform shoes the models wear in these photos… do you know anything about them – like if they’re photoshopped or real? Thanks!
so so jealous. did my abroad in stockholm and still wear my clothes from there regularly. please post lost of pictures of everyone and everything.
that’s over the top xD
It looks amazing…how in the world does she get wool to hold those shapes?
Is that a man… or a woman… wtf?!
oh my god… the clothes pins? they are amazing! i just don’t know how you can NOT be dazzled by this….
I really want to see what she can do after .. very beautifull but I cannot see the difference with the Hyeres collection . Want to be surprised . XX
Fantastic and jaw-droppingly beautiful!
PS thanks for the shout out in your latest interview.
xxx
I’ve seen this kind of pins fans elsewhere (another blog)… But where?
That’s weird. I posted the question about the platform shoes, but it’s appeared here attributed to someone else! Never mind.
Sculptural.
absolutely marvelous.
the work is beautiful… does she just do one-offs or does she do multiples of each piece?
When i got the collection in my Inbox two days ago I couldn’t believe what i saw… this woman is a genius. Love Love Love for la Backlund.
Some answers from Sandra…
The shoes were an idea of the stylist of the shoot, Naomi Itkes. They’re not photoshopped – they’re nude wedge shoes with nude tights inside.
The model IS in fact a woman…Alina Hedenstrom… Sandra was going for an androgynous look for the shoot.
She thanks everyone for all the comments!
Mrs F: No need… I do read you religiously!
Visiona: I think Sandra has carved out a niche for herself….a unique one so it’s not bad thing if there is repetition….
seems like you like swedish fshion 🙂
