Last weekend, whilst I was riffling through Lanvin shoes, dresses and skirts and being admonished for not putting my selected items into the IKEA-like plastic sacks (is it me or does being told off in French sting JUST that little bit more….?), my boyfriend was sloping/sneaking around Colette. He did read my blog beforehand and saw my post about my yearning for the special Gap product Mulberry Roxanne in grey jersey. I explained to him that it’s ‘grey jersey which is like my near-100% match if I was to ever take compatability tests with fabrics… (He said his match would be white good quality cotton… together we can make a tasteful John Lewis catalogue shoot…!)’.
I completely forgot about the bag as I was deciding whether I needed a 38 or a 39 in Lanvin shoes but when I met back up with him laden with bags outside Palais Royal, he had a cheeky Colette bag with him too. He bought the Gap Mulberry Roxanne bag for me however not in that sugar daddy way (I have a real problem with boyfs constantly gifting their girlfs with IT-bags and the like…) but because he genuinely thought it was a no frills bag that was actually nice and was very ‘me’ in the sense that it was low-key and a little naive. Now, I haven’t been using anything else! Seeing I’m not precious with my bags, I tend to batter them around a bit and this one has taken a bit of a battering what with the wind, the rain and flinging it about on wet basins in toilets. Thanks to the boyf, I’m well on my way to getting a nicely soiled and lovingly dirty jersey bag that somewhat resembles an ex-IT bag shape.
Yay! It’s perfect, way to go BF!
It looks niiice, even more so against the pinkness of your skirt and shoes…and it was sweet of the boyf to remember which one it was (most boys wouldn’t pay attention).
PS: I know you said it’s made of grey jersey…what happens if the bag gets wet? Like light drizzles and so on? Does it have a lining?
why would being told off in French sting more?
Very cute bag and very thoughtful BF.
I think the bag is very cute and it reminds me of the H&M styles. I would definitely carry that bag around on the weekends.

Cute outfit and love the bag. It seems like a bag that can be used quite often.
Those bags remind me of a post you made yonks ago about the canvas mocks ups of luxury bags in calico.
I really like it, it’s almost an oxymoron of a bag, sophisticated slouchy-ness.
Pss: What i meant was as French is a foreign language to me…it make me feel like more a of a child when i get told off as I don’t really know how to counter-answer! Also, the nature of the sale was a tad militant like… so I felt even more like a naughty school child!
Awwww….how sweet of him! And wonderful that he was paying attention enough to know exactly what you wanted.
‘not in that sugar daddy way (I have a real problem with boyfs constantly gifting their girlfs with IT-bags and the like…)’
Honestly, I just have to ask what do you have against it? Just curious.. an is it something you can see often?
I mean.. if the boyf can afford it why not? We live in a modern age and it feels rather old just labelling someone sugar daddy just because they like to spoil their girl.
Good for him.
That bag is gorgeous! I love it <3
see I even put in one of those nerdy 'less than three' symbols to demonstrate love of your bag and of course you!
And your boyf! Now that's one thoughtful man, I like that he puts in thought for his gifts to you...I cannot tell you how much I dislike it when boys give girls gifts with the obvious 'it was the first pink thing i saw in the shop ' tag.
x___x nonono. please. UNDERSTAND you girlfriends boys.
I highly doubt any bloke with a girlfriend would be reading this...but hey. You never know.
That is something I would wear to uni. It’s functional enough. And that was thoughtful of him!
Oh I love it when boyfriends know how to shop, even when their good purchases may have been part luck! You have chosen well ;].
The boyf will take all compliments happily…
Zainab: I’ve had a few ex’s who thought the pink gift was the right way to go…lol…
Me: This is a personal preference. I’m not criticising all boyfriends who do that for their girlfriends. But for me, if someone was constantly showering me with ¬£1000 bags, I’d feel highly uncomfortable because as with any expensive gift, you feel the gratitude needs to be repaid…. I suppose if I returned the favour and gave him ¬£1000 gifts, the balance would be restored.
I’ve had harsh experiences with the gift balance being weighted towards guys and perhaps I’m a little scarred.
Fashion for me is such a personal thing that I think I would feel odd about a boyf funding it. A gift like this once in a while is all very well but say if my boyf paid for those Nicholas Kirkwood shoes, I would not feel half as excited about them as I did paying for them. Perhaps that is a strange trait that is mine only.
In fact, having said all this reminds me of an article about ‘IT-bags’ and how women feel empowered buying them with their own hard earned cash and in fact they have become symbols of ‘a woman’s emancipation’. Read for more interesting views.

I don’t necessarily agree but in general, I think my wardrobe and what I wear/carry being bought by me is a far better situation than having the boyf do it, even if he can afford it… (and I have witnessed situations where boyfs have had to take out credit cards to fund their girlfs demanding bag/shoe habits…not a pretty sight at all!)
That’s so sweet of your boyfriend! I love the bag and it suits your style perfectly, but I think I would prefer the red version, just because it’s a gorgeous shade of red and because it kind of fits the cause better.
Well done boyfriend! If only all of them were like that and didn’t require instructions when shopping.
Got to ask though – low-key? He is merely referring to your bags?
now where can i get such an understanding boyfriend? are there anymore in london?
… and that bag is just darling!
aw, the fabric analogy of u and ur bf was too cute. =]
i wish i can get that bag in the US
