Bah humbug…!

I know I shouldn’t be saying this on the day and all…. but does buying gifts that you REALLY like and having to give them away pee you off a wee bit?  More specifically, your boyfriend buying this Paul & Joe plastic chain and pearl necklace with some taupe grosgrain ribbon, that is absolutely you to tee, for his sister as a Christmas present…?  Ok…. just me then…

I stroked it for a bit before reluctantly wrapping it up in a nice perspex box….

P.S. I had to wait until today to post this as to not give the game away but I believe the necklace is available for ¬£80 in Paul & Joe stores.

P.P.S. I jest.  I hope she does like it… even if I will be wanting to stroke it some more when she does wear it.

  1. Oh, Susie, you made my day with that remark. Answer is “YES” to above; I tend to buy the nicest things for friends that I would deem too “special” for myself. But I do realize that this is what makes that type of gift special, the fact that we consider our friends deserving of them. We place a value on our friendship and express it with a gift that the recipient knows to have an extraordinary value.
(I also tend to buy something for myself since I am responsible for buying my own gifts also, but this year I bought nothing!!!)

  2. haha… this thing pisses me off too at times. but well, if i buy presents for someone i like (and I don’t usually buy presents for someone I don’t like), it’s okay if he/she is happy when he/she gets it… If I REALLY want it, it can happen that i buy the same thing for myself again ^^ but in most cases i get over it. and anyway, mostly you receive presents from the people who you give presents to too, so.. I know it’s different because it wasn’t you giving the necklace, but your boyfriend, but well…

  3. I feel the pain!
I don’t like it at all that I have to ( get to) buy great gifts ( that I would love and they will ) and I what i get back is something that hasn’t been put time in.

  4. I went to buy sweaters for my sisters and felt the same way. I ended up buying one for each of them and two for myself! But it’s really great to get good gifts you never even suspected.

  5. wow your boyfriend has great taste! Hahahaha I love your posts, I laughed when you talked about stroking it. I totally understand how you feel 🙁 It’s okay you boyfriend probably has something better for you? 🙂

  6. Well, at least you got to record the picture of your wearing it here. I think you’ve already created a lasting aesthetic moment through using the piece, and therefore no longer need it.

  7. The good news is, the piece looks like a potential DIY…some nice pearl beads, chain and a bit of ribbon might just do it, right?
And a belated merry Christmas to you, Susie!
PS: that terrorist alert thing is random..

  8. Suzanna: I think that the best thing to do is to gift yourself as well as your friends…that way you don’t feel too peed off!
Cate: The feeling did pass eventually…especially as I found out the boyf’s sis really liked it!
allthingspiffy: Yes…the boyf more than made up for it!
Dru: So random…I didn’t even click on it! I will def go for it on a DIY scale…
