Not to be old fashioned or anything but I do think hats add that certain je ne sais quoi to an outfit. There was a period in time when it was deemed unacceptable to go out without one! Of course times have changed and so has the hat. Headpieces, face coverings were all over the A/W06 collections, some a little too unwearable bordering on scary for me! So I’m delighted that I have found an alternative – Karen Henriksen, the London based modern milliner makes very sculptural modern hats that do not resemble birds nests or wedding cakes. Decadent fun aside, I am going to the Royal Ascot horse races this year with my company for the first time (apparently waitressing there when I was 16 doesn’t count!) so I actually need to invest in a good hat. Isn’t there something very charming about booking in an appointment with a milliner? Makes you feel that extra bit special!
From her S/S collection – I have my eye on the one with the big bow. I would so wear that just out and about!
I love the simplicity of these flapper style hats (below) – more of a headpiece than a hat.
These are from her Boudoir collection. I actually think the eye mask is quite sexy.
Her wedding collection is equally impressive – would take some panache to pull off though!
Her MA collection at the RCA got her the Hat Designer of the Year Award back in 2002:

GOSH I’m so jealous! I ♥ hats (fortunately I have a “hat-face”) but never have the occassion to wear one. One can look a bit strange wearing one on street these days…
I really love the first two ones. Have fun in Ascot then ♥
I say go for the hat rettchen! It matters not a bit what ppl think – especially since you have a ‘hat’ face, you must take full advantage of it!
Oh that white hat is so pretty…
