Fly is REALLY that fly

Ok I buckled, I faltered, my magazine addiction has reached an all-new high.  I shelled out £29.99 for the Fly DVD I was harping on about.  However…. Je ne regrette rien!  As soon as the intro sequence started, I was glued to the screen with an ‘Ooohh….’ expression on my face.  The editorials were all so awe-inspiring to watch.  They’re categorised by designer so it’s not really like a traditional fashion magazine editorial.  Rather than showing a range of clothes and a variety of outfits, it’s more about each director presenting their interpretation of the designer and projecting a concept or an idea.  It really is quite exciting to watch fashion in this medium.  Sure, it’s not as tactile as tearing out magazines but you are more focused on the editorial clips simply because of the visual element, as opposed to just flicking through magazines half-heartedly.  The combination of music and movement adds a whole new dimension to how you view fashion too – somehow, the multimedia aspects manages to heighten the look created by the director and you do get a better understanding of the vision he/she is trying to achieve.

I have not finished watching all the documentaries and interviews yet but from the ones I have seen – John Malkovich and Araki, they’re all very engaging and interesting too.

All in all, I fully embrace this new fashion content format and am rather excited about Fly’s upcoming issue.  It’s pricey but for the amount of content, definitely well worth it!  There’s also something very satisfying about absorbing fashion this way.  Paper magazines will always have a place in my heart but certainly, there’s no denying the wow factor about this DVD.

I highly recommend buying it if you can afford it – I uploaded one of the editorials here just to illustrate why you must buy it (not because I’m trying to just stream the whole thing to the entire world but because I truly believe this DVD deserves the money!)

P.S. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO COPY/SHARE THIS CLIP – I’m only showing it to illustrate what a great DVD this is – a teensy taster to encourage you folks to buy it.  So don’t ask me to YouTube more clips on the DVD – I’m not ready to be put behind bars yet!
