Having begun to strategise for the summer sales, I have been going over the S/S06-07 collections thinking of things that could possibly have a hefty discount despite hefty original price tag. A pair of shoes that came to mind, and don’t laugh – are the Chanel half-spat, half sandal shoes. There is reasoning behind my strange attraction to them. I have lately been buying a lot of clean cut clothes – nice shirts from Muji, some very simple Margiela 6 pieces and being me, I can’t just put on a straightforward outfit without complicating it somehow with SOMETHING a little off. These sandal/shoe hybrids are exactly the sort of thing I need to bring a sense of oddity that somehow makes everything right outfit-wise (if that makes any sense….).
I’m kicking myself because I missed out on the Topshop cheap version (below right) that were on sale aaaages ago, long before I was thinking of sandals. So now, I’m praying that somewhere in the sale racks of Harrods (a shoe sale that’s surprisingly worth going to….the only time I’ll step in that tourist trap….), these Chanel babies will be heavily marked down due to the fact that they couldn’t shift them when they were going at full retail price – difficult fashion statements usually end up going down this route. Ah well, all the better for me!

i love them as well~! there’s loads of “influenced” sandals like that in HK boutiques right now, I’ll be definitely picing up a pair in august~!
Yay! I may not fork over for the Chanel ones then…… HK prices are just too tempting to pass up. I’m going back in August too!
yeah they were featured in a recent HK mag, one of the gossip ones my mother reads~! I’ll try and find out what boutique it was and where.. I can only remember it starts with ‘m’ and thats no use~
I’m only staying for 2 weeks unfortunately, it’ll be a super rushed shopping trip, I want to check out the HK Harvey Nichols. Have you been? Any good?
Meh…it’s ok….. it definitely stocks labels that you won’t find anywhere else in HK. Other than that, there’s nothing I can’t get for the same money or cheaper in London.
2 weeks is more than adequate! I get bored after about 3….. HK is a place I love to visit occasionally but I couldn’t possibly live there long term……
i actually like the topshop ones the best but i can def imagine any of these with some nice margiela.
I have to say I have eyed these shoes from afar since I first saw them – alas I was laughed at by even my most fashionable friends! I suspect those of us who aren’t perhaps long of leg may find the flat version rather tricky to carry off.
I did see a rather petite girl wearing the flat Topshop versions with flair! But yes, I’ll settle for the flat or heeled versions if the fashion sale gods are smiling upon me.
DJM: We can start an underground appreciation society for the Chanel sandal shoe 😉
Iaw someone wearing the Chanel ones at Ascot with a Chanel dress and a dodgy hat (on the tv, I wasn’t actually there, sadly). I’m still unconvinced. She looked like she’d got some toilet roll stuck around her ankle on the way out the loo.
If anyone can pull them off though, it’s you Susie!
I actually phoned Chanel about these sandals, and at that time they told me you have to order them! I saw similar ones in Selfridges 50% sale for over £250. Now I dont think I can afford them even if they r in sale!!!
i do have a similar white pair i bought in HK. i love mine to bits. quirky stuff are lovely.
