Once in a while, every magazine will do a editorial or feature page on how to mix patterns when putting an outfit together. However, in reality, it’s about once in a blue moon that I see someone really going for the pattern clash. It’s instinctive for most people to combine a pattern with a plain colour but with the right balance of colours, pattern variety and different types of garments, there is no reason why people should fear the clash.

You’re so much more talented with prints than I’ll every be! I think the first green outfit and the third red plaid one works especially well. I like it when it’s patterns of different scales but in the same colour group.
You’re so cute and yet so confident! What a fabulous fashion sense! I adore your blog and I just posted this link ther, so my friends and readers can learn from you!!!!
ooooo i do love pattern combos! i especially like the last one and (as the 1st person said) the red gingam one. I think they just prove that similar colour themes can make opposite patterns meld nicely.
oh sooze, you do this so well.
just don’t tempt everyone else to attempt the clash when its quite clear that its your innate sense of colour and style that makes it work. on others, it could be a ‘mare.
i have been inspired by some of your work on WAYWT to do the clash myself but I can rarely pull it off.
^Aww… But I want more ppl to join in on the clash! It’s such fun! I think I dress with a ‘don’t care’ attitude so even if in reality I look crap, in my head it’s all ‘la la la la, I look fine!’.
i do the clash too, with patterns, styles , etc. i heart the plaid look you’ve done.
What great inspiration. When lying in bed trying to sleep yesterday night I kept thinking about all the styles I haven’t tried out yet this summer – and this is one of them. I must have a look through my closet.
😮 I thought about this issue last week !
I tryed to match some patterns but it didn’t work out .. I thought: those stupid magazines are fake, it’s because of the good light, the pretty model, the prof photographer and the most lovely environment why it works out with them. But maybe I’ll have to try a little harder to make the perfect pattern mix 😉
