I was going through My Style Diary page simply because it’s nice to see the progression, the patterns and the chronological order of my outfits. I’ve only been taking pictures of what I’ve been wearing since September 2005 but as I look back, there are a few distinct things that I saw creeping in, that didn’t exist last year. As much as I don’t want to appear like a fashion-victim, it seems I have paid more attention to catwalk trends than I thought. I don’t know whether to feel miffed or ashamed or both. I am guilty of the thing that I expound against. I know that I loved everything I wore and that hopefully, I managed to come out looking like ‘me’. Or perhaps my style is supposed to be this ever-evolving cycle. I think my previously negative attitude towards trends has watered down significantly – they need not be completely ignored but treat them like a pick n’ mix and work them in with your style. Ah, how times have changed.
Mellow Yellow – a colour I *cough cough* mysteriously started acquiring a lot of, but despite what people say about it clashing with my *ahem* yellow skin tone, I still love it.
The Escape to Pant-dom – If you guys have any idea about my style, you’ll probably know that I don’t tend to wear a lot of trousers/pants. Simply because I have no patience for trying them on, finding the right fit, length etc. But obviously, I can’t ignore the pant completely. I get trouser envy whenever I saw catwalk pics of skinny styles, slouchy ones and just the ease about them.
Rescued Trenches – Not so much a trend but this year saw me resurrecting my mother’s old Burberry trench coat and an old A.P.C. men’s trench I found at a Paris consignment store and putting them both to good use. Or perhaps, it’s part of the ‘reviving a classic’ movement which could be a trend in itself?!
Get Shorty – Even though shorts were the bright young things last summer, it’s only this year, that I’ve taken to wearing them in a serious way.
Braces – Well actually, I took a cue from my sister who wore braces with skinny jeans and tight shorts a few years back. Coincidentally, they had their catwalk moment too with all the masculine accessorising going on.

I just love the yellow jacket youΒ΄re wearing in the fourth picture (second row)…wher did you get a hold of that?
wow. thats truly inspiring. i love how your style morphs so much, and how nomatter if you look more mainstream or completly unique, you still maintain your individual quirkiness. i think im gonna have to do the style diary thing now!!!!!
Lina: That yellow jacket was a vintage find from Paris – got it for 5 euros in a bargain bin! I love that jacket too….! I think it’s part of a traditional Indian costume though so you might find similar ones.
Julia: Thanks! Yeah, just browsing Style Diary is very addictive stuff in itself…
hi π
do you know where i could find some cute (and not too expensive) braces in london? (i don’t live there but i’ll be there in a couple of weeks).
beautiful outfits… you have more for watching
please
god you have the ugliest clothes ever
^Mucho gracias…..
Cranberry Candy: If you go to any vintage stores, they’ll have a whole selection of different braces. Much better than buying new ones. I recommend Absolute Vintage or Rokit.
where did you buy your skinny jeans from? they’re pretty π
I’ve been reading your blog for a bit now, and I always really like the things you wear and the way you bring it all together. It’s really hard *not* to be trendy, I think, simply because of what’s available to us to work with. I’m also progressively becoming less anti-trend, and am in a really awkward style place right now, but I think I’m coming into my own, style-wise, so it’s all good.
Where can *I* find these pants?

I really like them!
To answer the pant questions…
Hana: The ones in the picture are actually Miss Sixty J-Lot jeans but the ones I wear most frequently are Pepe Angel skinny jeans.
V: The pants are very old Yohji Yamamoto and I got it in a Paris designer consignment store. I’m seeing this kind of shaped pants all over the place though and I might do a dedicated post on slouchy pants if I find enough!
thank you very much for writing back susie π
hey, beautiful style u got there. I’m all over from Australia and I can’t get hold on some vintage stores like u can. I really admire your style and I was just wondering…how many clothes do u have…?
you got great legs π
I love what you did with the old coats. They’re fantastically timeless stuff.
