Feeling Very Vena Cava

I really do apologise if some of you were expecting day by day detailed coverage of New York Fashion Week.  I just can’t seem to muster the enthusiasm as I’m somewhat stressed out by other worries!  The thing is it wasn’t all that bad – there were some lovely collections with some standout pieces.  It just all ended up merging into a blur for me.

The one that did strike out on its own was the Vena Cava presentation yesterday.  The collection was presented on a quaint astroturfed garden setting with groups of characters milling around, sitting pretty and lying languidly (probably all strategically arranged beforehand!).  The groups of models were cutely named things like ‘the Daydreamers’ and ‘the Misfits’.  It’s not that the clothes are radically different or unique but the collection distilled what I think a lot of New York Fashion Week designers excel at – very wearable, covetable things that are instantly liked and instantly appealing.  There’s no theoretical discussion needed about the true meaning of the clothing, no shock factor, no violent reactions of ‘Urgh’ or ‘Bravo!’.  It’s not that it’s mediocre but you just take it for granted that people are going to like it.  With Vena Cava’s loyal following, it’s the same case with this collection.  For me, I plan on stocking up on Vena Cava for spring and summer because the price range is not widly expensive and I’d get a decent amount of wear out of it.

Here’s a video shot by the awesome people at Coutorture.  Julie and Phil have really worked their socks off to bring us so much coverage in videos and pics.  I only wish I was more fashion week-happy and I would have really exploited their hard work!

  1. I love the idea of this show, but I think there should have been more movement. This show would be like going to an art museum, you’d just wander through admiring each piece. The concept is wonderful, though, and the clothes are very beautiful.

  2. The mood of this collection is so nice, and I really liked the presentation and styling of the show.
PS This is my favourite blog Susie!

  3. I really liked that the presentation was so different from the usual runway show! However, I can see some problems with this; its hard to tell what the clothes really look like when the models are artfully lounging on the astroturf. : But overall, a very clever concept; I’m just looking forward to seeing the entire garment/look…
