When Mehmet Isik emailed me saying he was a fashion student from Turkey, I took a look at his work and said ‘Student?! You havin’ a laff?’ Actually that’s the way it goes when I get emails from supposed ‘students’ whose work tends to be impressive beyond what their student status says… it’s all one big conspiracy…they’re actually amazingly big designers in their respective countries and I just don’t know it. Students indeed…
In all seriousness though, what I’m trying to say is that fashion student doesn’t really mean that they’ve got lots to learn and that they’re not putting out impressive work. Student shows every year are getting more and more intriguing for me and I’m probably going to have start my own compendium of names just to remember everyone. Mehmet Isik is 23 yrs and old and hails from Istanbul in Turkey. Other than that, I only have his work to go by which is a structured parachute or parachuted structure let loose in a collection. Full of volume that is reined in in some way in the garments…. ignoring the billowing plastic bag action going on. I never tire of designers that have an obsession with shape and form given my own intent in trying to inject interesting shapes into my own outfits so if Mehmet continues in that direction, I’m guessing he’ll be upgrading from MySpace to a proper site soon enough…

ouah…he indeed have a lot of talent!! thanks for sharing!
holllyyyy momma. no way is he is a student.. he’s already a designer, just continuing to learn more and more. looove this post
xx
it looks very promising and great. but i can’t hlep but admire the amazing industrial/constructionesque backdrop – it’s stunning.
Definitely a conspiracy.
conspiracy or not.. he is doing something right as we are already talking about him no where near Turkey. Good for him. I have lots of admiration for these creative types.
oh i agree. SO many incredible students are insanely good- too good! talent like this seems to be lacking in our society, i’m so glad to see such beautiful work.
i like it, it shows great talent!
The headpieces really are something.
/Cillian.
Those shots with the plastic bags are gorgeous… even though I am getting minor ANTM vibes from them 😀
What talent, I think you’ve discovered something big here Susie.

you say student i say cheesey
fantastic work. I like ambition in students..
I dig the ‘head squished in a waffle maker’ look. very cool.
love it. i’m all for unconvention in shape and silhouette, and a sense of humor in fashion! 🙂
Oooh, interesting- and fashion and design students do often put out fantastic stuff- I love the styling here, nice use of poofy plastic bags!
student?!?! must be a bloody brilliant one – i’m never sure. art/fashion school is always brimming with scarily talented people. but anyhow his work is great! i love generous shapes and minute details
It’s good to know that some designers are willing to go along with their time. His designs are amazingly fresh and modern, may I ask who is the photographer? Because he really enhanced the concept of this collection.
With that ability, he should set off to really making his label accessible to the whooooooooooole world!
Mind blowing work there!
His work is beautiful and inspired. I want to float away. Good luck to him.
