Hail Mary!

I know I’ve already harped on about Mary Katrantzou not once but twice today but I just can’t get her mesmerising prints out of my head.  The exaggerrated effect of them coupled with her colour choices just makes me really excited about what she will do in the future.  At the BFC London Rocks showroom in Paris yesterday, I literally zoomed into her collection seeing as I had seen the other ppl’s collections at the shows (Todd Lynn, Louise Gray, Erdem, House of Holland etc etc).  Mary is one of the lucky few to start her own label so soon after her CSM MA collection and she’s lightened things up a bit for S/S 09.  No more double bonded jersey as the fabrics are much lighter whilst still retaining a stretch.  On parts of the dresses, light denim is sewn, which slightly casualfies the pieces, especially on the piece with a mock denim short front.  The zips are fully functional this time so you can shorten things if needs be or have purposeful slits in the dress.  What I love is the clash of colours that is always well judged and never seems wrong.  The addition of stripes makes me think that Katrantzou did a funny play on the classic breton stripe.

An MK collection isn’t complete without the jewellery and this time, it’s made in silver and gold as opposed to wood, still as chunky as ever.  Looking almost like industrial instruments, when paired with the dresses they’d add a tougher touch.

  4. How great of you to feature a greek designer! I don’t know if you can stand to even consider the words “fashion” and “week” together ever again, but it just happens that we have the 8th Athens Fashion Week taking place this week. I am participating in the workshops so I get to hang around all day, but not get in the actual shows unfortunately. Anyway, I post new photos every day, so it would be lovely if you had time to visit.
