The Missing Day

garandepvc.jpg

During Paris Fashion Week, there were outfit gaps due to Tommy and I not running into each other and my half-show/half-appointment schedule.  However, on day 5 outside Dries Van Noten, as I was rushing in because I was heinously late, the lovely Garance snapped this outfit.  I doth protested because this was my ‘slummin’ it’ outfit, the outfit I was wearing to run errands and do appointments in.

Still, despite the fact that I was going casual with a well-worn checked shirt and comfy wedges (courtesy of Acne…. wins the prize for MOST comfy height-giving shoes ever…), I had to still assert the fact that I’m a shiny black magpie, as in I’m the sort of magpie that will always be an eternal lover of shiny black.  In this instance my Topshop PVC trews get an airing and despite the slum, I could not help but add a jewelled leather neckpiece.  Black sequins, jet, jewels/gems, vinyl/pvc/leather, if it’s black and it glints, I’m onto it.  Somehow, through a majority of my outfits, I manage to work some form of shiny black into it… me thinks a restraining order is needed soon.

  1. Ooh, I just commented on Garance Dore’s blog about this photo, it is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about this outfit! The neckpiece, the gorgeous top under it, the shiney leggings, and the unexpected (at least to me) checkered shirt, and then…funky shoes. LOVE it! You look amazing Susie!

  2. For what you call a ‘slummin it’ outfit, think you look great! The necklace and pvc leggings keep it interesting and fresh!

  3. SUSIE.
this is one of my favorite outfits.
    ever.
    the plaid. the pvc.
    AHHHHHHH LOVE it SO much.
    forever inspiring.
thanks for all that you do.
    x.

  4. i just wanna say, it looks in this picture as if you have your hair cut in a bob, and it looks really really good on you!

  5. glad we got to see this, thanks garance!
i wish my ‘slummin it’ outfits were half as well put together as this!

  6. loooooooooooooooove this outfitttttt
eve though its really simple and casual you allways manage to bring your style and point of view forward, ou yes you inspire me miss.

  7. Why so pigeon toed? It’s a cute pose, but it really doesn’t reflect the tone your blogging gives off. The picture and the words don’t connect.
And, “I want ACNE in white”? Best line ever.

  8. It’s like alice dellal without the alie dellal. This is such a classy ‘off’ look! I’m so envious. I’m so poor in London right now that I’m ‘off’ every day, and only about one tenth as elegant as this (and one tenth is probably an intense exaggeration). xx

  9. PS I also agree with the hair cut comment above. The long bob suits you! I just went from long long long to long bob and haven’t looked back! xx

  10. CW: If I’m honest at that point in time, I was thinking about whether I could get a seat in time for the show and whether a toilet would be nearby…. as opposed to checking to see whether my pose my matched my writing tone…
But point taken…I’m not the world’s best photography subject…

  11. If there is jewellery then you are not really slumming! Great outfit.

  12. I honestly cannot believe this is just “slummin it” – you look wonderful! My favourite bit is definitely that neck piece.

  13. CW, you should read some other blog.
Susie you look amazing, as always. x

  14. I’m lovin’ your slumming – if only Britney had adopted this style. I’m reconsidering my slumming outfits pronto – keep the shiny where would we be without the shiny!

  19. I absolutely LOVE this outfit! You’re incredible… man, I wish I had your style and sass! The leggings are just fantastic…

  20. i like the outfit, it is the best one so far as you managed not to crash the clothes, accesories and shoes. but please please give yourself a new hair style. don’t you feel bored with the full fringe? it reminded me of the film called the grudge.

  21. don’t even !!! you look great. as much as you might think your slummin’ it look is mussy, i have to say that i adore it. you’re always stylish!

  22. Fantastic outfit Susie! And I’m fixated on your necklace… I’m trying to figure out how to make one for myself, but would love to know where yours is from, if you wouldn’t mind telling us!

  23. ahahah! my gosh! that’s your slummin’ outfit? no way. you look amazing! well..granted it is a step down from what you normally post…but still, loving this look 😀

  24. Are these the PVC leggin that cost.. £35? Topshop should take the credit crunch into account. That said I adore them.

  25. i keep looking back at this photo; it’s just gorgeous. maybe the best? really great outfit and pose and everything. it’s funny how sometimes the best things come naturally, when you think you’re not even trying…

  26. Thanks guys…I do think all credit needs to go to Garance and her BEAUTIFUL photography…. I’m merely passing by into a beautiful set-up….
I must also point out though this was my slummin’ it outfit…. it was fashion week so my suitcase wasn’t exactly packed with casual clothing…
But this was so comfy to roam around in….especially in the bleedin’ rain….

  27. Yes Pam, I spend my time going to 20-30 different computers posting comments under different names… that is EXACTLY what I do…

  28. your entire outfit looks amazing, as always,
i’m not sure that the criticisms given are fair, but i adore your sarcastic responses, which emulate the message that your blog gives (to me anyway): fashion should be enjoyable. your style (both writing and clothing) is fun, and truly yours,
thank you for your consistently fascinating posts, which never fail to leave me smiling! r x
