Suspending from all the way back in 2006

Suspendersjap
As I admitted to Helen and Connie from Chictopia, the other day over lunch at San Francisco (by the way girls…it was fantastic geeking out over blogging and fab fusion food… thanks), I’m not ashamed of enjoying reading my blog archives.  It’s a little like rereading diary entries and giggling at myself.  Even odder that certain entries stick in my head… like these wool shorts and suspenders combo in a Japanese  that have always haunted me.  Correction, haunted is too negative a word.  They have been stuck in my head for a good two years now and I just couldn’t let go.  I got the Tao woolen shorts that I hankered for back then and I just needed the suspenders.  Today though, I went for the Patrik Rzepski suspenders/chaps to aid the look.

As I got stuck back into the Japanese magazine cycle what with my brief stay in Japantown in San Fran, the image came back to me for the rainy weekend.  I’m also adding to the "deliberately clunky" effect with the white Doc Marten Patrick boots that are perfect for sloshing around in this diabolical weather.  They’re also deliberately UN-pretty, UN-elegant, kind of like the Clarks Desert boots which I was wanting a few months back.

  1. I havent forgotted those garter thing either! Such an awesome look, I often think about trying it out but I don’t have anything that looks even somewhat similar to those suspender/garters from that Japanese magazine. Whatevs, I’ll improvise!
Love that skirt by the way, did you mention where it’s from or am I just missing out on these key details!?

  2. Susie, your outfit in San Fran is just gorgeous! That Moschino skirt with the stripes…GOLD! Also love your Tao shorts from way back with the pom pom scarf 🙂

  3. I remember going through your archives, reading that entry, and feeling sort of undecided about it, but now you look amazing in it! I also love the 1st outfit! Yaaaay Susie!

  4. love those Tao shorts and the suspenders/chaps are rather inspirational. theyre giving me all sorts of ideas.
nice to see your smiling face again 🙂

  5. i think to even have a style blog in the first place, you’re already someone with a narcissistic/vanity streak (whether pronounced or not). so reading back on my blog entries is like cathartis 😉 and alright *clap clap clap* for the knitted peach shorts! you are my style queen, Susie!

  6. the fish scaly Moschino skirt is just chic in the cutest way!! love it.
With the weather so wet and cold like yesterday, its amazing how you still have momentum to dress up and still be warm! – ah, the way you paired your CDG woolen short + all other things woolen <3

  7. you look incredibly funny in that suspender. the japanese ususally wears things their own way and it looks good for them. trying to be cute as them is a mistake.
don’t like your crash style though i like the skirt itself. maybe you can share some tips with your friends from far right, she seems to have style and her clothing looks subtle and elegant.
you are always over the top in a bad way…sorry

  8. Forgot to say that Karen: It was a steal from the Dover Street Market sample sale… lucky buy!
Soun Jeng: Yes, Connie is very chic…hence why she works at CHICtopia…. and I don’t… I was actually pretty pared back that day… I don’t mind being over the top in a bad way because that’s a statement coming from you. I will therefore take your comments as a compliment… merci!

  9. something very striking about these chaps/suspenders, i bet you could make some similar by cutting some wool leggings?
