Knit, good woman, knit!

You say summer, I still say knit and you can’t take the K word out of my mouth.  Hey I can’t help it if there’s not that special stirring in my loins when I get excited about the new collections that everyone was poring all over when the shows were on.  Wait a little while longer and I’ll get all stirred up soon enough.  In the meantime, it’s the quieter collections that are shouting out to me.  By quiet, I mean collections sans show and media hoo-ha….and they seem to all revolve around knits in some way.

Clare Tough S/S 09  is convincing me that I need to keep looking for mop-textured clothes.  More specifically bristle tops that tier exactly like this cardigan…

I don’t quite possess the right attitude to pull off sexy crochet bras…. I’m working on it…. if I can layer it over a slip I might just manage. // Lace gets knitted for the summer carrying through what’s going on this season into the next in a more delicate way…

Curtain tassels come to mind; the type that my mum would insist on having in the house and would always feel ridiculously heavy…except on the dress here it looks featherlight…

Tim Ryan has had me suitably fringed up for the winter with his black scarf that has constantly been by my side (his grey giant pocketed cardi has also become my on-flight essential…) and for S/S 09, the fringe carries on…. flaring out from delicately knitted skirts, wide-legged trousers and as capes.  Again, there’s a delicacy and lightness of hand to everything that makes me yearn for layers and layers of summer knits folded up in between layers of scented tissue paper in a canvas lined box (don’t ask me why that’s my exact vision of how to keep summer knits…).

  1. That’s so weird, I was actually pondering the whereabouts of Claire Tough yesterday.
I’m glad she’s still out there going strong

  2. gorgeous photos! i’m checking out tim ryan right now for more lovely fringed and layered outfits… thanks for sharing! =)

  3. Why, knit is great! It’s winter, snow, cold here and knit is the thing that goes best with all that! Although, of course, you are talking about summer knit.
Haha, with me it’s not the lack of attitude to pull off sexy crochet bras, but the lack of cleavage. I like them though. Very hippie. I like crochet bikinis too.
I tried on a dress with these kind of tassels at Vero Moda! I liked the look of it but it was too tight.

  4. ooh, i am not usually a fan of fringe, but that dress with the black and white fringe in the back moving towards the front is amazing!

  5. The fringe and tiers make me crazy.. I think I’m going to have my friend (who’s a great knitter) show me how.

  6. Is it a typical retro come back? I see knitted stuff popping up all over the place. It’s not like we have more free time to actually knit nowadays. after seeing some blogger actually having knitted a really funky (into construction, in case you’re interested) neck piece I went out to see what I can get in terms of yarn. Not cheap and I’m afraid I just don’t have enough time in a day to really create something fun. I wish I could still. I also wish I had enough occasions to actually wear that stuff. Having a big camera around my neck doesn’t allow much fashion these days. 😛

  7. Such gorgeous pictures & pieces in this post! The fuschia dress is just beautiful (shame you probably have to be built like a beanpole to look good in it), and that skirt with the long fringeing is just unreal!
