If I ever had a past life, though I don’t really believe in such a thing, I think I may have been a redhead as anything redhead related seems to pop up here without rhyme or reason. I used to draw pretty ladies when I was five with mahogony/auburn (my two favourite words to describe hair… reads very well…) hair too. It’s all far too odd to decipher. Anyhow, La Roux, (redhead in French) a singer has been making many waves with her Quicksand track released on Kitsune but it’s the video that has got me egg-cited. Apologies for hitting you with not one but two Kinga Burza-directed videos in a week but this one takes the biscuit. It’s hilariously exotic, tropical in a surreal way… perfectly matched to the song… just watch it through if you don’t mind me ordering you about.
The styling by Nova Dando is just marvy too. She sewed a lot of mixed animal prints outfits that a) don’t make me balk because of the androgynous cut and b) are worn exceedingly well by La Roux (it’s the hair I swear…). There’s animal print Ksubi, a Henry Holland floral suit (does it surprise you that I actually adored the S/S 09 floral suits…) and also a Martin Margiela trench which all come together to make this eclectic early 80s’ relaxed safari look that I think my mother was fond of in the late seventies (from some photos I saw…)… which if I replicated would look like a fool…but for La Roux under the fake sunsets with giant pineapples is pretty amazing…
