Shop in a Shop at Trypolar

Amwell

Pop-up, gallery, temporary, fleeting; all apt words that are being applied to London's fashion retail ventures.  It has to be said that some are more well-executed than others.  Today, another one of these retail experiments opens up.  Except it's not crying for attention nor is there a big song and dance to go with it.  On the heritage/history laden Amwell Street (there is in fact an Amwell Street Society) in EC1 that's tucked away from the brashness of Kings Cross and the chi-chi-ness of Angel, lies Trypolar.  Footfall isn't exactly high here but you could quite easily stumble onto this street, be ridiculously charmed and want to come back (I have no excuse seeing as I work and live near here…).

Then inside Trypolar, label Poltock and Walsh have set up shop and will be here for the next five months.  From the outside looking in, it's quite odd to see a shop-in-shop that is singular – Poltock & Walsh inside Trypolar – as I'm so used to seeing them all lined up in the likes of Selfridges with the big big brands.  As I looked inside, it looked like there should be a Russian doll of shops going on… like a shop in a shop in a shop in a shop….

Katie Walsh was on hand to show me round her ickle shop and what she has got coming in.  First up, customisable colour-your-own dresses.  The two styles that are up for colouring in is this A/W 09 dress that Katie is calling the 'Kate Moss' dress as la Moss ordered it and a few other pieces too.  Instead of the all-black that she has opted for though, you can customise the panels of the dress with chocolate and plum.

They've also revived a dress from an earlier collection, the S/S 08 I
think, where I bought a ruffled halterneck top but has updated it with
a set of new colours that has me thinking that all six conflicting/complimenting shades could be
incorporated into the dress with mis-matched pockets.

In a slightly self-indulgent and practical move, they've also introduced a set of dog collars that are thank god, not mincey and annoying in the way that a lot of novelty dog accessories can be…

… Babies are on Poltock and Walsh's mind as Katie has a 10 month-old baby and Fiamma Poltock (the other design half) is about to give birth. I think my baby blub-blub yearnings have been kickstarted by this cute cute cute printed romper that Poltock and Walsh developed for A/W 09.  Would it be too premature to order one for future bebes?

Or I should just keep my uterus in check and opt for the tee or the jeans instead…

Cowboy booties without the excessive cheesy Western factor…

Aside from the print, leopard print sequins, knited loopy cardigan and sleeved-dress and the zipper blazer are all stand-out pieces from the collection.
