Oh most typical of all typicalities. I cross the Atlantic in a Westerly direction and guess who's crossing Eastbound over to the Big Smoke? It's only Angie Johnson, aka designer behind I Heart Norwegian Wood aka, my beloved cage collaborator who was kind enough to indulge in my cage lingerie fixation that has spawned a bit of a cage-fest since and has now been elevated somewhat beyond all recognition.
Quite literally, the dates she is in London coincides with the exact dates I'm away in the States. This is just not fair play on the part of whoever is responsible for errr… our travel plans. Anyway, whilst I'm making sad panda faces knowing that we can't go on jaunty shopping trips together in London and play my favourite role of "manic tour guide" (I'm not patriotic, but I am about London specifically…)… I am happy to revel in the fact that Angie is here because in a most EGG-CITING move, she will be joining Topshop Oxford Circus's second line-up of EDIT designers. For those of you that aren't EDIT-savvy, I'll refer you back to this post that I did on the fiRST EDIT project. Basically Topshop give a group of carefully selected designers from around the world some shop floor space in the Topshop Oxford Circus store (though I think EDIT products will also be available online too…), selling designers' own mainline wares as opposed to diffusion lines.
In the case of I Heart Norwegian Wood, her wares are always on the development and subject to customisation so for Topshop, in addition to pieces that you can buy on her Etsy shop (closed for the time being whilst she finishes up orders…), she will have some exclusive pieces for Topshop. I believe they go in store on the 25th October in the second lot of EDIT droppings, hence why Angie will be in London to savour the moment of seeing her things on sheeny shiny Topshop rails… here's the lineup…
– Fringe necklaces in 4 colours (including a new grey/black/white combo exclusive to Topshop)
– Feather necklaces in 2 colours
– Leather cage skirts in 3 colours exclusive to Topshop.
– Panelled leggings in 5 colours, all brand new for Topshop!
– "Road Warrior" elastic harness in black, but also in an exclusive pearly fringe version!
– A brand spanking new panelled t-shirt design in black and white
(Custom handtags illustrated by Montrealite illsutrator Paule Trudel that will be on the pieces going into Topshop's EDIT section)
Whilst I can't be there to witness the moment her things hit the floor, I'll be back to go have a peek and perversely spy on people's reactions to her pieces (I think this is what overbearing, insufferable mothers would do?). I'm also glad to report that with this Topshop EDIT collaboration, Angie has also been motivated to develop more apparel (though in my mind, her accessories double up as clothing anyway…) and so she has sent me a sneak peek of a cropped fringe jacket she has developed that will be going on her Etsy store… loopy fringe. jersey. statement jacket. DONE.
I think I'm just about over my displeasure over this simultaneous Atlantic bi-directional crossing…

If you will ever come to Firenze I will be very glad to be your “manic tour guide” 😀
Yayy!! Congrats to Angie! She deserves all of the success that is coming her way. She is hands down, the hardest working person I know. I’ll be sharing a studio space with her in December so I’m hoping her work ethic will rub off on me 😉
Oh, and I also wanted to mention that the strappy black shirt thing underneath Angie’s jacket was made by Olga Tigirlas (another Montreal designer). She recycles old t-shirts. Here’s a link to her stuff- http://tinyurl.com/yg33oba
Anyway, it’s awesome to see Angie on the rise like this!
I didn´t know her but right now I take a look of her site, nice works.
