>> I have a general rule about gifts that runs something like this; for Christmas, small but thoughtful gifts should suffice and for Birthdays, then you get the grand gifting gesture. At least that's how it was supposed to go in my head. In the end though when it came to thinking of something small and thoughtful for the other half, that somehow translated into a errr…..vintage 50s cocktail cabinet/bureau thing. Hardly small but hey…what the heck…it's CHRISTMAS! (Said in UPPERCASE and with an exclamation mark, it seems to be the reason why there's STILL rampant shopping going on in supermarkets… I was queuing for ONE HOUR to buy a pomegranate or something…).
Thankfully, Steve didn't stick the 'small and thoughtful' rule either otherwise I'd have looked like a right fool with my hulking cabinet in the room. I feel a bit shameful gloating 'Look what MYYYYYYYY boyfriend bought me…' but there it goes… that's precisely the sort of chuffed elation I felt when I ripped into my boxes… and found this Stella McCartney Sofia Flashing Bustier, the one that I had banged on about a while back. Lingerie for Christmas from the other half can generally be an aching minefield (see Laura Craik's Crimbo Lingerie guide…) but this bustier which I've been eying up for many a moon is really just ripe to be worn on the exterior, nestled amongst some pastel layers. I already have sped into the future and see myself hanging out in it for far too long on my summer roadtrip around Cali next year (yes, it's in the planning works… and yes, it's one big Thelma and Louise cliche…) until it gets particularly dusty and grotty.
The other part of the pressie were these Irregular Choice patent brogue shoes. I think I had dropped the hint a little stronger with this one… I think there may have been a hideous and pathetic 'wheeeeedling' noise that came from my mouth, when I was in the Irregular Choice shoes. I blame the delicious shade of dusky pink. And the pink flocked velvet inside which makes putting them on barefoot a real peculiar joy.
Gather it all up and I'm a happy bunny on slippery ice. We'll go back to 'small and thoughtful' when our brains accumulates more braincells over 2010 for the purpose of 'thinking' and not resorting to big lumpy treats. Promise!
love those shoes! Have a merry xmas Susie
loving the MJ inspired styling! nice colors, great pieces
This is a really, reeeeaaaally lovely post!! Enjoy your amazing presents 🙂
Fabulous! But why have you opened already?
Duck
xx
Marcus: How weird! MJ didn’t even cross my mind!
Duck: We exchanged our gifts early as we had to go home to our respective parental units…. I’m now back in err…Barnet!
Lucky girl! But I was thinking the same as Duck….why have opened them already?! When I was in London I saw a similar bustier in Liberty and ALMOST bought it, but in the end the exchange rate un-convinced me…really must start sewing lingerie…
We’re saving all our presents for tomorrow, we’ll just be opening bottles of wine tonight ;)… and perhaps a special bottle of champagne. Have a great Christmas Susie!
Oh, you are lucky, and you look stunning. Love the pants so so much, the bustier is fantastic too! Have a lovely christmas 🙂

Lovely! Absolutely ethereal. Enjoy! I am so jealous of your shoes . . .
OOOh lovely pressies, I love the flocked inners how luxurious! Have a wonderful Christmas, Pearl xx
that is the most beautiful outfit i have ever seen!
Oh, the brogues do look amazingly fun to slip into barefoot.
And I’m so glad you’re going to be visiting California! I do hope you visit San Francisco! I think you’d love Norcal beaches (unless you’ve already been there and know), they’re generally not bikini-wearing, suntanning-type places, being all blustery and overcast most of the time, which I actually love.
Have a great Christmas!
WOWWWWWW. that outfit is legit amazing!! ahh! so creative.. love ittttttt!!!!!!!!!!
kat
why’re you two doing christmas presents now?! It’s not christmas til tomorrow!
Thanks for all the well-wishing! But just to make it clear, my boyfriend and I don’t spend Christmas day together so we had to open it early before we go off to our respective homes…. that way, we get to see each other’s reactions! i.e. Steve got to hear my squealing noises….capiche?
Wow! those shoes are so beautiful – and what a lovely touch with the velvet inside. I really love those lace insert pants you’re wearing – Did you make them? I say that because I noticed the inside seams look as though they were finished with pinking shears.
Merry Xmas 🙂
*whine* why do you get to open your presents now??? *whine*

Tottally gorgeous shoes and the outfit is very susie! I love your blog so much susie! I sent you a merry christmas email on Christmas eve which I hope you got! I sent them to all my favourite bloggers but you will always be number 1! I’m sorry I didn’t manage to read your Christmas post until today seeing as I’ve had an iPod touch now for about 47 hours I should have made the time to check out your jubbly posting on it!as I have been very busy commenting on other peoples blogs on it though I have decided that it would be too fiddly to use my own blog to post with this thingypod!
Anyway off on random tangeant again ; just wanted to say you look stunning and I love those shoes and your trousers! And now I am off to watch boxing day film bridge to terribithia (so cool and imaginitive- it reminds me of Tavi- not sure why!) with my family!
The brogues are awesome! Isabel from Hipster Musings has a thing for brogues, I’m telling her about this post. xo
